I'm not getting oil on my X or Y ways on my ancient 1100. Is there a series of pictures or a video showing how to get to the distribution blocks under the X? I'm assuming I'll have to remove the X...
Annealed 4140 will cut very much like CRS, but "real" 4140, as stated before, will be around 32 Rc and will cut with 2-3 times the difficulty. This type of steel is awesome for building things due to...
My apologies if this has been covered already, but will Path Pilot support REAL, FULL G41/G42 cutter comp? I genrally program (at work) with zero offset in the computer, full offset in the control....
Oh, yes, it's back to life and when I get some time I'll be making parts again. I'm not expecting to ever hold anything better than +/- .001", but for what I do, that's fine.
I was pretty nervous...
They say misery loves company, so here goes...LOL...
I bought my 1100 used a couple years ago and learned the hard way that the poor old girl had been ridden hard and put away wet its whole life....
Mooser has my vote for best compact enclosure:

Can anyone do a quick .dxf of this GTX logo? I tried with Inkscape last night and failed miserably. Thx.

Sounds like your sheetmetal fab guys are a bit like some of the folks I've worked for. "Oh, it's just a guy with a hobby...he can wait". Ugh
I had the Z gib on my 1100 drop down and seize the Z axis. In a panic, I tried to jog the head up, making it even worse. I ended up lifting the head with a hydraulic bottle jack.
A little...
Any progress on this? I'm hoping to get my machine to the new house soon and will be adding an enclosure of some kind. I'm leaning toward Mooser's design,

Geeze, Louise with the damn pig pile. The man asked opinions and I replied. I was a 20 year-old kid at the time and I'm simply reporting my observations. It certainly wasn't MY job to service these...
Well, the machines were all CHECKED, but were they ever adjusted? Once the shop got an estimate, no.
There are good operators and lame operators, some of it is them, some is how they were trained...
Yes, sorry, should have been more specific...looking for a CNC driven unit. I like the setup you've got with the Bison chuck, Don.
Looking for something like this (and wondering why Tormach...
I don't know about the ATC, but I use the basic Fanuc (MPFAN) post for mine and it works fine.
I'd like to do some 4th axis work on my Tormach 1100, but the big unit they sell would be overkill for my purposes. Has anyone used a 5C collet indexer on theirs? Anybody seen one around the web that...
You can call BS all day long if you like. I have absolutely no stake in this game, I don't sell machines, not trying to sell the OP a machine. We (the shop I worked at in the 90's) had the worst one...
This was on three different machines at two different employers. All three were brand new.
It's been a couple years since I've run one, but I think I recall this option somewhere deep in the settings or parameters area.
The toolbox/tools are worth far more than the Tub Enclosure..er... Milltronics. I ran a few of these back in the early 90's. Good for plastic and aluminum, LOW precision parts. Following error was...
I'm quite curious as to why you'd be making molds from 300 series stainless, as opposed to 420? 400 series SS is far more machinable and can be heat-treated.
You probably want to check the tram of the head with an indicator on the machine table. Mine ran out a mile and that's when I found out I had loose gibs and a crooked head. (The machine's as well as...
Yes, I'm wondering if the previous owners ever did any adjusting and now I'm pretty sure why they stepped up to a brand new HAAS.
They claim they changed oil lines from time to time, but who knows...
Well, performance and surface finishes are greatly improved. (Before and After pics below) I tweaked the X and Y gibs for good measure.
Good news at last. I was able to get some 4mm ferrules at work today and got the main Z oil feed line back on. Should have the rest of the parts from Tormach by week's end.
Ran my simple vise jaw...
OK...I'm done, back inside, showered and on the couch for the day...LOL
I went with the home made tabbed washer and it did the trick. Down to .0015 runout pushing on the head and about .001 in X...
It's a good thing my hair is short or I'd be pulling it all out.
Took a shot at adjusting the Z gib. Loosened the bottom screw, turned in the top. Still over .015" slop when I physically push up...
Co-ax indicators are nice, but expensive. I did fail to mention that you'll need an indicator to go with the Indicol. I use the #178, which is designed for a Bridgeport, but there are cheapo...
Yes, I may just do that. Depends on the weather, my level of ambition and a host of other "what ifs". LOL
The grips are for any Mopar with a pistol grip shifter and my product, the Auto-Grip,...
I made these last month with my companion spindle (a bosch router on a custom bracket). I had been dying to try 3D stuff onmy 1100. Now I'm back to the aluminum main shifter body and at a standstill...
