Ali Express for cheap tools.
I use them for 316 and they are fine. I tend to use the cheap ones at a few bucks each which are what is sold here for 5x the mark up and then use expensive tools such...
Thanks, I would not have been aware of that. However, looking at the SMM, it is a 10k USD jump straight away without the faster spindle. I couldn't do it and get the other things I want. I would love...
Thanks for that info. I assume you mean the higher speed spindle needs it to run
I looked at the Tormach 1100, which is basically what I have now in terms of travel , power etc, with the exception of its tool changer. It would cost roughly 40k here in Australia, compared to 60k...
Had it 3 years, only started using it 2 years ago and really only been working consistently on it for the last 12 months. So truthfully, it is better to say I have had it a year. I like the machine...
So yes the current machine can do the work, as I am cutting 316 stainless now. I was in fact taking a full depth of cut (3mm) at 350mm/min , but the finish was not so great and I had to do too much...
60k would be the max I could go. I can get a Mini Mill in Aus for that, but wondering if thats my best option. Tooling would have to be ''acquired'' as I go. Start off with 5 or 6 holders
So I have very little machining experience, learnt everything online searching , here and most of all Youtube.
Its taken me from absolute zero , to doing ok. I am making some watch buckles

So I have been away from the machine for a few days, but just now started to look more closely.
I am running a test piece of the same parts and discovered the the Y axis is off.
I have a tool...
the plate is bolted down to a permanent fixture that cant move, but if it did, then the whole job would have moved, not one operation.
I have looked, all it tight and where it should be
So I have been machining the same two parts in the same fixture for 4 weeks now, and something strange has started to happen.
At this point I have not started over, as I thought it might be...
Thanks, and while that is helpful is does not show info on the lead in and out. But I have the idea now thanks to your response and I will search that info.
That is a little past my experience . I understand most of the very basic code that is in that file, but that is it. Without Onecnc or such I would have no idea.
What I might try then is to post in...

Imagine a banana shape. I am cutting 2.85mm deep in one pass from 3mm plate. It leaves the mark vertically on the side from wherever I enter.
It is set to 1. It was set to 3, but did the same. So more is better you say. Any number that I should start with?
I bought a Wabeco 1410lf HS with enclosure etc from MDA Precision in the States for 30k AUD landed. I can hear it cranking away in the garage as I type. Very happy with it, takes up not a huge area...
So yes, I am still a novice, only 156 hours run time on my machine so a lot to learn.
I am cutting some small parts from sheet and have found there is a slight mark that needs removing where the...
Just an update.
I ended up buying the Wabeco V5 mill from MDA Precision in the States, and added a CC-D4000E lathe as well.
I did this in the end, for space, and the ability to use the manual...
Yes it does, and there is no real reason for it. Sure everyone blames the Government, but I suspect it is a little bit of price fixing due to low volume here.
It is with cars at least.
I am also...
Well I made a comment or 2 on the facebook page that has the UMC-10, and they did not say anything in response.
I spoke with the guy that has 001 of their machines, and he talked highly of it. So...
I certainly have been, and keep going round in circles for the most part.
I do like the look of the UMC and the Levil though, and the Levil I keep coming back to all the time, as I saw that about 4...
Not sure what a local shop would charge for the blanks to be cut, but as my volume will be extremely low, it more than likely will be an added cost that would not be cost effective, and I would just...
I do not need an ATC, but I would like one, and every machine I am looking at except the Wabeco has one anyway.
Would just make life easier for me, with it.
Some very good points you have made. Thank you.
I will look closer at the UMC 10 as well
I have contacted them on both points. They responed in good time and believe their machines are up to the task. That said, I always look for real world user opinions on most things I buy, as this is...
The UMC-10 looks pretty good, but his website is vague with not a lot of info. I will email him over this weekend however. After seeing it, I searched for reviews and user related posts, but most...
Not exactly. My current watch, which has been in production since the end of 2011 has been made to 75pcs only, and does not have any custom options.
The 2 new models that are being worked on now,...
Thats what I was thinking, but whenever watches are mentioned, I think most people have a mental picture of watch movement parts.
95% of the use I will make of the machine, will be the cases, and...
UMC 10 looks the part, though it is basically the same price in the end as the WL 400
Budget is up to the high 20;s but the less the better of course.
I do plan to ask for some sort of deal,...
