Nice :)

Outside of modelling/formulation is there a practical way of measuring stiffness? IIRC I saw a youtube video of a guy who put a dial indicator on the spindle and then a tether with a scale on it. He ...
Not that strange for that company. I bought one of their arcflat tables that was no where near the claimed spec. In the end they didnt want to bring the table to spec so they just returned my money...
I spoke w Alex from CNCDepot at length. Super helpful guy located in USA and their FB shows a lot of inhouse manufacturing in the US. Fyi, they are sold out of their current spindle offerings. The...
Pretty much framed out the base frame, and enclosure frame. I also re'cd the new spindle. will move onto getting the VMC frame cleaned and painted.
I rec'd the new spindle, pretty crazy the size difference of the spindle and the tooling. I won't be able the test the new spindle until I get the head stock sorted.
JGL-80 2.2kw 400hz ISO20 vs...
I settled on the JGL100/2.5-BT30 4 pole, Thanks for all the input.
The XY per the model 440x306 (17.3"x12.4"), cant tell on the Z yet.
Table is 460x200 (18.1"x7.9")
This is all per the model, Once I get the frame on the base I can measure actuals.
Looks nice but I think it's a bit much for my 220v/50a single ph power source. I like my current spindle JGL80-2.2kw, but its ISO20 and I want to move to BT/ISO30 for better tooling.
Im pretty...
Getting the base sorted for this guy. Im reusing the steel base I built for my steel gantry router. The base was irritatingly tall for the router, for the VMC I wont be able to use my crane to lift...
Keep us posted if you do source replacement bearings. If I order another Jainken Ill ask for a ceramic set as well. Though I don't know if I would have the skills/tools to replace them by myself...
...
Ah yes, I checked right after I posted. Are you having noise issues w your spindle?
I got another update from Wafer and they now have the JGL100/2.5kw like Fox's in BT30...
It just so happens I orderd this for my ISO20 spindle a couple days ago....
After a lot of time and effort building a welded steel fixed gantry router and then starting to build a granite surface plate mill, I've come to the conclusion that I don't have the time or patience...
Ah perfect thanks for the links. I looked at similar bits but the were wood only for the 12000. Thanks great find
I have no idea, that why I'm asking. I'm open to a belt driven spindle, but when I look at normal spindle surface speed of 600 f/m for AL for tooling 1/8"-3/8" cutters the recommended spindle RPM is...
Ive had some dialog with Wafer at Jainken, he was who I dealt with w my first spindle, and Jainken now offers the 3.2KW in 400Hz or 800Hz. As I initially posted, the goal was to move from ISO20 to...
Thanks, I see that now. Alibaba quotes the spindle at 800Hz, Jainken quotes 400Hz and 400/800Hz.
I thought the VFD video predated the Jainken.
@crjohnson I reviewed Fox's spindle videos. Do you know what VFD and settings he's using? In the videos hes running the spindle up to 24000RPM so he must be using an 800Hz capable VFD
Of all the responses to this thread, this is the one I find most enlightening. It also is in line with what Alex at CNCDepot explained to me.
Im now considering the CNCDepot FM30F (four pole) mated...
Just got off ph w Alex at CNCDepot, the FM and S spindles are being updated, leadtime is 8 weeks. Super helpful guy.
@mactec54
Thanks, Ill check out the V1000 HF
I did check out the CNCDepot S30 a couple years ago, but there was a long delivery date for them. Ill check again...
@Mactec54 can you give me a model # for the Yaskawa?
Thanks
@joeavaerage
Thanks for the thoughtful input. I understand what you're saying, but the ultimate goal is not to reuse the WJ200 VFD. The goal was to move to BT30 tooling with a Jainken spindle....
@joeavaerage I think you're conflating all Asian made equipment you're not familiar with as 'cheap'. Jainken is a quality Taiwanese spindle manufacturer and by no means cheap. I use Delta ac servos...
I currently have a Jainken JGL-80/2.2R24-20 and a WJ200-022SFat 220single phase on a DIY steel fixed gantry mill. For a year this spindle/vfd combo has worked great for milling plastics and aluminum....
whow whee... looking good :)
Awesome, where did you source steel and cutting?
And I'll add one last niggle with epoxy wo filler. My exp with epoxy is that post cure hardness/stiffness is inverse to temp with a narrow window of stability. In ambient temps < 70F epoxy is glass...
I started in much the same manner with my last machine. I wound up spending close to $10k in welding, measuring and fixturing equipment before spending any money on the mill components. For me, its...
