Bed is done. Decided to grind, file and lap the rails by hand. When I say 'lap' I mean wet grind on a flat surface, not with compound.
Foot/feet cleaned, primed and repainted....

Hello,
I'm just a hobbyist but am looking for my Atlas 10" lathe bed reground or even re-machined. the bed is 36"x8". Anyone willing to help me out with a reasonable quote? Original machining marks...

Soak in household vinegar for a few days. Wipe it off and see how bad it is. Safe and cheap... but slow
love the video. looking great!
I may have 200 of these coming in soon. Was asked if I want them. Is there enough people wanting to purchase these? If so I would be happy to get them in and sell them very affordable.
Will you ever attempt a draw bar on another spindle? That would be interesting.
Great design and look. I had the same idea for the 45 degree metal for rails. can't wait to see how they work without having to actually do it. LOL
that is the one...
Thanks. I'm using household vinegar as the acid. Muriatic is a little too strong for this.
I just purchased a used Taig lathe and it sat for quite awhile I was told. There is small surface rust in a few places. I want to soak the bed and parts in vinegar for a day or two to completely...
Thanks. I can design and build a PWM so I guess I will start looking for a used treadmill in my area this week.
Thanks for the info.
What WATTAGE do the majority recommend or use for the Taig?? ...
I have a used Taig lathe coming soon and am very excited. It has a single phase 1550 AC motor with it now (not the Taig OEM) and would like the ability to control the speed. I plan on modifying it to...
Thanks... I really think I would rather spend the extra dough on American made products anyway. And from what I saw the quality looks outstanding. Now where to start..
I keep going back and forth on my first metal lathe. I want something that I can convert to CNC in the short term. I have the PWM, steppers 280oz, hardware ect.. So I will be converting based around...
After a little cleaning and close exam... I am coming to the conclusion that this is a late 19th century music wire (piano) winder. Was probably in a store or shop and rolled out wire for sales.
...
Is that a certainty or a guess?
I figured some machinist may well know what this is. Looks like a winder of some kind but can't find any info on it. There is no marks from a maker. It's cast iron and about 12-14" wide. The yarn...
FYI..Thinking of restarting this project when my basement is complete.
Thanks @Giz
It was much nicer looking until I started experimenting with oils and grease then did some grinding on it. LOL
I plugged in the dimensions into software so it can be recreated. If...
- Been pretty sick this past week but tossed together this jig to grind 45 degree V angles in 3/4" steel angle. So far working better then expected. Actually works perfect. Happy to say it cost less...
So the question is what exactly??? You have a failing business with an opportunity to take over a good business your interested in. Family owned.
