Re: Breakout board power, Which Power pack?

I was looking for one of these but i could not find one available for Australia. And few that i did find were over priced.
But it's all good now, i'll just use the 5v2.5a power adapter that i have.

Re: Breakout board power, Which Power pack?

The 5.3V was from a old mobile charger. I thought the current might be a bit low, at 500mA.
The 5V2.5A was from a external usb hub.
    Thanks All for your replies.

Breakout board power, Which Power pack?

    Hey All,
I wanted to power my Chinese BOB with a power adapter instead of the USB port.
    I have 2 adapters to chose from, 5.3v 500mA or 5v 2.5A.
Which is better to use to power my chinese CNC BOB....

    CNC power protection

I was wondering if others have some type of power protection on there systems, against power fluctuations or any issue that might damage there electronics.
I was thinking of maybe adding in a fuse...
  9. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

Hey guys i finally ordered the PS and i am just waiting for delivery. When it arrives i will be back to get some extra help :)

    Thanks
  10. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

So i have bookmarked that 48V16A PSU and will be ordering one at the end of this month/beginning of the next month. Hopefully the price doesn't go up.
I will let you know once i have it.

  11. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

@dharmic In regards to the 48V16A PS that you linked, i just want to make absolutely sure that i can plug that into a 10A household GPO? without causing problem for that circuit.
    I am asking because...

Re: i don't know where to begin .

Hi Paul You are (kind of) where i was 3 years ago. Wanted to understand CNC Routers and/or Milling. For me i just watched a lot of videos of different people building the machines and then researched...
  13. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

ok, so two 48V might not fit my needs as well as the link dharmic supplied earlier.
However i think with the single 48V 16A i would still need to separate the required power for each purpose. i.e...
  14. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

The Link that dharmic suggested looks good. the price conversion is $150 including S&H.
I'll need to save a bit for that one but it currently looks like what i might need. Thanks dharmic for the...
  15. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

Ok so the RS website does not have what i am looking for. Hmmm

I was looking at the chinese PS. I found this. not sure if it is what i need.

    Specifications:
    Material: Metal case
    ...
  16. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

@dharmic Yea, I am on RS website at the moment trying to find a transformer with the necessary outputs.
  17. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

    @RCaffin

I have been looking for a while for the transformer you mentioned (i believe it was something like this, a 240VAC10A to 48VDC 16A)
But i can't seem to find it, either the volts drop...
  18. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

so if i use a 48V 6A PS what is the best way to get the 5V needed for the logic.
  19. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

    I'm in Brisbane
How do you get a 16A on a GPO rated for 10A or is it a 20A GPO on a separate circuit that you have?
Here is a link to the spindle i have. SPINDLE

I looked at the VFD's, lol way...
  20. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

    Thanks for the info Roger.
So i should be able to use a 48V 6A PS, (if i understand) for the steppers and drivers?
and a separate 48V 10A for the spindle?
Would that be fine in a single GPO?
    ...
  21. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

@RCaffin For the steppers you said that if there is a sag in the voltage at peak load that it won't matter. But wouldn't that damage the steppers?
it sounds like your suggesting much less voltage....
  22. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

@GavWA Thanks for the reply. you are correct being rude or sarcastic on a forum that is meant to help people only makes them feel that they can not get help here,
    and probably injure them selves...
  23. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

Thanks for that. Still need more info on stepper motor power requirements and usage.
  24. Re: Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

Thanks Snowy, Looks like that might be what i need. Time to start reading (again)lol

    Thanks
  25. Need Help finding the right PSU for my CNC Mill

I am trying to find what PSU i will require to get my CNC up and running.

  26. Re: Where to get Aluminium,. 6061, 7075 and other machinable alloys in Aus?

True Both Lakeview and Williamstown do mainly sell 6060 with the odd piece of 6061. and i think the short pieces (300mm) might be because of freight. I believe they can sell longer parts but mainly...
