I always had good luck with Temp services for jobs at all levels. Many shops are willing to train. They like the "Can do" attitude.

How thick is the work piece ? If it's less than an inch, use a high spiral cobalt tap. Also use a thicker mix of coolant, or tap heavy. Use a rigid taping method as well.
It's all what works....
Good shops in Minnesota pay $27.00 to $30.00 an hour for good people. I retired at $27.45 an hour. You have to go to the large shops. Not the Ma and Pa shops. That's where the money is.
I'm sorry if I don't side with the theory that people with experience measured in months should be highly paid. That you earn my friend. Your employer may see it my way.

Times have changed. Machinists are in short supply. Any machinist working for less than $25.00 an hour is screwing himself and his family.
