I keep the endmills choked up as far as possible, but it's a lightweight mill - an X2 clone... I think it's a fair starter mill (was my first) but pretty limited once you learn what you're doing. I...
This is a manual mill, so feed rate is as slow as I can crank the handles to avoid the mill having a conniption
My problems seem to start at or around 0.25" end mills. The thing is...
Unfortunately, this is a manual mill so ramping is not very easy (at least, for me)
It can do 2500rpm... When the chatter starts at higher speeds, it's downright frightening!
Hi,
The cutter never clogs - but I'm cutting brass, so maybe that's the difference? I have tried taking small passes as well without much success. In the past, I've tried coming in from the side...
I think I already know the answer to this (mill's too small), but I'm gonna ask and verify...
I have an X2 mill that works well when I'm doing small cuts with small endmills, but...
This is awsome! I don't think I have the skill/patience to modify one quite that nicely... :o
For me, my first step would be to buy the mill and the CNC conversion would be later. I do...
Thanks for the info. Honestly, that's a little too much $ for my pocketbook - that's why I was hoping somebody here could cool my jets before I bothered to contact the company

Hi,
I found the OneCNC $500 off coupon in my inbox this morning. That makes me wonder just how expensive this is anyway? I realize there are probably different levels/prices, but for 3-axis with...
Really? Why the square column? I guess I can see that a knee mill may be hard to set up the Z axis?
Hmmm... Looking even better for that price! And I like the colors too
Seriously though, everyone talks about the Rong-Fu clones and I don't see much about this one, even though (in...
I have a question regarding the difference between two types of "benchtop" mills. There are many clones out there, but I chose the Grizzly ones because it was easy to do a cost comparison for the...
Wow! I think I need to take a few classes at my local trade school
I looked up what a Monoset is - BIG piece of equipment! And you're right about the cost - yikes!

What is involved in cutting your own endmill profiles? I see lots of expensive equipment used to make precise angles on the cutting edges, but if that's what I'd need, I won't be doing this any time...
Hi Nick
Well, if I have any future problems, I now know where to buy new bearings

I cut tiny, itsy-bitsy parts with 1/16" end mills (sometimes 3/32") and since I need a nice finish (in brass), I run my Taig at 6,700rpm for the entire process. These parts typically take an hour to...
I'll agree with you - he also sent me an extended demo because I needed to test several thousand lines of code. Anyway, I wound up buying it right away!

Uh, so do I, and I'm mechanically minded... Isn't it funny how passionate people can be about their CAD/CAM of choice? :)
Anyway, I tried a lot of different apps and although I did like...
I've seen cracked versions of some big ones on sale on warez sites for under fifty bucks! You're right about everything being cracked! But if I had to guess, I'd say that with just a small handful...
I made the mistake of asking for a working demo (my bad) of RhinoCAM - I actually copy/pasted their response in the General CAM/CAD Programming and Design Software forum under "Any RhinoCAM users?"

Sounds like most people have had bad salesman experiences with BobCAD. I downloaded their demo, only to find (like many others) that you can look, but you can't touch - couldn't generate any gcode...
I have a Harbor Freight 8x12 lathe. This is identical to the 8x14 sold by Lathemaster.com. Well, Lathemaster sells a quick-change toolpost for this lathe that consists of the complete cross-slide...
I've used the propane torch trick - very carefully...
I don't know how they get those on to tightly, but in the future, I'll try a pully extractor...

Okay - I'll grab it off of my mill PC this afternoon and post it. How should I do this - just post the whole thing as text in a post?
Okay, I'm doing something wrong here...
No matter what speed I configure my pieces to be cut at, Mach 3 seems to default to an absolute feed rate. I've been experimenting with various feed rates,...
Hmmm... I have some - I'll give it a try. For some reason, it had occurred to me that these marks were microscopic grooves that wouldn't just go away with a polish, but maybe a small buffing wheel?
On very small parts, what is a good method to clean up the tooling marks left behind from, say, a flycutter or surface mill? These are cosmetic only. I am wondering about some sort of fine brush on...
Thanks for all of the help - lots of ways to deal with this, huh? :)
Thanks,
Mark
It's just plug-and-play. Xylotex wired it and all you have to do is plug the plugs together. I hope they didn't do it backward?
Is it possible to tell Mach3 to run that axis in reverse?
I posted this in the Xylotex forum, then decided that I was in the wrong place
So anyway, I have a new Xylotex controller and steppers and I'm running Mach3. The Xylotex setup was...
