Hi Bill, I haven't had much time to look at your SprutCAM project, I've taken a quick look and done some quick mods to show you an alternative way of tackling this job.
There are lots of different...
Terry, I don't have any further information other than what is supplied by Sprut. I have attached a sample (Fanuc) lathe postprocessor that I have been working on.
I haven't used it in anger, but it...
Yup, it's been offline for a few days together with their website.....I think that in Russia they celebrate Xmas from the 31st December until January 10th....so it may be 'down' for a few more days....
3D Model mode - select the whole Part - Transform - Locate zero........easy when you know how :D
Jon, I am the SprutCAM agent in the UK and Ireland, and I too sometimes have problems with contacting them via e-mail. I'm sure it's not a case of them ignoring you. Once you get outside of the main...
Hu, that's very interesting........I remember a few years ago trying to track down a spurious error which was occurring for a customer using a well know CNC control (no names mentioned), the machine...
Can you repeat the fault or is it a random fault?
If it's a random fault then I would suspect a machine / controller fault.
If you can repeat the fault, then I would suggest running the program...
You can either disable the Air glass theme in Vista, or disable 'Use fast painting mode' in the SprutCAM 2007 setup dialogue.
SprutCAM uses OpenGL graphics and I believe that the Vista Air glass...
errmm....I think that the thread has moved on a bit from milling flats. How long would it take to manually write the program to mill Don's curved part I wonder?
The original thread was started by a...
In SprutCAM V4 we had restrictions which were used to define area's which we wanted to machine, and also fixtures (clamps - vices etc.).
In SprutCAM 2007 we describe the area's that we wish to...
Hi Mike, sorry but I don't do manuals :) The term 'partial machining' is one of mine.
I've created a short video to show you how it's done.......a picture paints a thousand words and all...
Hi Mike, In V4, 2D Contouring is the way in which I would do this too......
To stop the cutter running around the whole of the shape you should use partial machining.
When you select a 2D curve for...
Mike, I guess I've just got too much time on my hands :D
To understand how to use the 'Ditch' and 'Ridge' options I would suggest that you try using them in a Pocketing operation.
Just create a 2D...
Mike,
Make sure that you set the tool as engraver, with the correct angle etc.
Set the side angle to the same value and set the bottom level to more than you need.
Now select the curves (ditch)...
Mike, I don't use it much myself, but have you tried the engraving operation?
I think that if you assign your curves as 'Ditch' it should do what you need for open or closed curves.
I have put a...
Hi Mike, I suspect that you are using the wrong function.
De-select the 'Return' option that you are selecting (curve).
To achieve what I think you are trying to do, in the Strategy window of the...
Just tried it again and it appears to be back up and running......
Dave
same here Mike.......
You would normally obtain any required postprocessor(s) from the dealer that you bought SprutCAM from.
Failing that you can contact Sprut directly.
Dave
Chris you have made some very good points there, and I feel really frustrated that your experience with SprutCAM has been problematic.
I have asked the guys at Sprut to read this thread, and...
I did indeed start writing an e-book on SprutCAM..........then Sprut dropped it on me that they were writing a new version (SprutCAM 2007) and so the project is on hold until the new production...
Unfortunately, this is reflecting badly on SprutCAM, and I have e-mailed Sprut to make them aware of this problem.
I sell SprutCAM in the UK & Ireland and cannot get anywhere near the price that...
Hi Mike,
It's always worth sending this kind of thing to the software engineers at Sprut to get them to check it out.
It may well be a problem with the dxf file, but SprutCAM shouldn't behave in...
Hi Mike,
Can you make the SprutCAM project available for download or e-mail it to me and I'll take a look.
Dave
Postprocessors are not a problem for SprutCAM. There are several supplied, including some Fanuc.
Your SprutCAM reseller should be able to help with supplying or modifying one to suit your own...
Terry, I've just had a quick look and it's actually set up with a 5:3 format, so it'll work best for metric.
It may be that the control on the Tormach (Mach?) is not ultra fussy about the arc data....
It is not generally possible to create a Sprutcam postprocessor that will suit both metric and imperial units. This is because the registers that create and format the output for the G-code can only...
Chris, to manipulate (move - rotate - scale - mirror - locate zero) an imported part in SprutCAM (V4), follow these steps
In 3D model mode, select the whole model by single left clicking on it in...
SprutCAM is very good for engraving. You can create TTF or stroke font text direct in SprutCAM and then machine it with either 2d Contouring - Pocketing - Engraving. If you select the Allow 3D...
Eric, it feels like it sometimes.....but no. The e-mail address that you have on the SprutCAM forum has not worked.
Send me an e-mail (dave AT sprut.co.uk) and I'll reply to it with the info that...
