Very interested in this as well as just about to switch over to UCCNC and have the ShuttleLCD and would really love to be able to use it as it's a very nice pendant.

Very interested in this as well as just about to switch over to UCCNC and have the ShuttleLCD and would really love to be able to use it as it's a very nice pendant.
Yes you can quite happily buy one and not die horribly in flames, but you'd be better off perhaps getting a manual one to learn some of the skills on, then converting it to CNC yourself, it's also a...
Have a hunt around there's 3-4 free simulators out there, not sure how good they are but well worth a try.
And yes, having a simulator to me especially in the software itself is VERY useful. I...
Sadly Aspire is a LOT more than I intend to spend, but yes it would be nice ;)
Hi Chris, I have tried sheetcam the price was very good but I didn't like the software at all.
I have one small...
I'm looking at spending around £500, it would be nice if the software did basic 3D work but I'm more interested in the best 2.5D package I can get for my money.
I've been trying CUT2d which is...
Hehe, have a check of the cutting edges when your done, think I overdone it on the first one and it chipped a couple of the edges. Second one I was a little more considerate ;)
It just helps to hold the plastic bung in the end, I took the offending one out filled the hole with plasticene and carried on, just get a smaller grub screw to go back in or cut the old one down.
Each end was sealed off with plasticine, I used a small brush and a hoover which got rid of 90% of it, airblast to clean most of the rest then removed the plasticine followed by wd40 and a rag.
Just a bit of mutual aid, JD's doing his and I'm just chipping in bits and bobs I find while doing mine that may help him.
Mines an original Optimum BF20L and it has webbing(braces) going across the base under the Y axis so that nut also needs to be cut, may need to trim a little webbing as well, we'll see.
On the...
Second one finished, checked the cutter this morning and it has some chunks out of the side where I tried to full depth cuts but 0.3-0.5 width, it much prefured full width but 0.5-1mm DoC. Still ok...

Total was aprox £30 for two with shipping. You'll need to phone them with the...
Worked a treat :)

Finally plucked up the courage to start cutting down the ballnuts to size. Bought 2 10mm solid carbide cutters for the job. After working with just delrin and ali, having smoke and blue chips is a...
I just buy from my local supplier W. L. Cooke Ltd not sure if they do mail order.
Just have a google lots of decent suppliers about, but as I'm just buying small/hobby amounts I've never gone...
Why not buy some 6061 here in the UK, doesn't need to be huge chunks just enough to test out your tool paths/parameters, least then you may know if the material you have now is actually any good.
You need to have the photo's hosted on a site to be able to do it that way, loads of free ones about. I use Photo Sharing. Your Photos Look Better Here. | SmugMug you do pay for it but it's very...
If you type some txt, then do

and some more txt....that should do you :)
Out of interest why the change in DOC for the two jobs if they are basically the same?
Also don't forget those figures are fine in a straight line but when you get to an inside corner you have...
After more fiddling today it also looks like the Y nut mount won't fit either as there's a lot of webbing between the two sides of the base casting that get in the way.
Hopefully at least the Z may...
The screw holes and bearing all line up fine, it's just the pins, it's not far so might be worth breaking out the callipers.
If yours is exactly the same as the G0704 then bonus :)
Mines an...
After the above revelation I've been having another look and the holes for the pins on the X axis end plate don't line up either.
This means lining it all up is also going to VERY interesting.
Also...
Have a look at this GWizard: A CNC Machinist's Calculator for Feeds and Speeds really good, loads of info and you can lock the different criteria. So say lock the rpm at 1500 and with all the cut...
Don't suppose your anywhere near east London at all?
Hmmm, this is about to get interesting. Just had a break from work (I work from home) to have a look at the saddle a see where everything fits.
The hole for the X axis nut to fit in is a LOT larger...
Here ya go, not used them but bookmarked the page as several people have mentioned them being good.

Had a friend around yesterday who wanted me to teach him how to build his new pc so took advantage of the extra body and stripped the mill down.
No real issues apart from getting the little keys...

The one I used was 50mm x 0.5 x 32teeth, it's thinner than yours but then yours is a bigger diameter so probably about the stiffness.
I tried with 0.5mm cuts and it just rode up the slope, you...
Turned down a pen barrel so I could use it to unscrew the ballnut onto, thought I'd just pop the nut onto the mill and use a slitting saw to cut that one side off....WRONG
Dear god that nuts hard,...
