I was wondering if its possible to grip onto an m6x1 (16mm long) thread in the subspindle, then face tap an m6x1 hole? Or is this going to slip? Material is 303ss, the machine is a citizen L16....

yes you can spray oil of the slides. I would also oil the spindle bobbin. way oil or hydraulic oil is fine. the ballscrews are grease and there are fittings throughout... -
