Kpt, it is a VF2 SS <-- not just a VF2
I have seen the EC-400 in action and it is pretty sweet. However, I voted for 2 VF2-SSs because it fits my needs well.
Geof,
No worries!
I want to see what people would do regardless of what type of shop or equipment they have/ work in.
Okay lets try this again.
Lets say you just won the grand prize in a sweepstakes at Haas. You have to choose to take three VF-1s or two VF-2SSs or one EC-400
NO options. Shipping is FREE
...
Wally,
I understand what you are doing.
Also, I think I am going to make a poll!

This is about the three Haas machines I mentioned. NO OTHER MACHINES SHALL BE CONSIDERED ON THIS THREAD. I am not trying to get any advice, I am just curious.
Does this need to happen every time...
Okay thanks for your input, I guess. Production shop, job shop, start-up shop, I dont care.
It's just a hypothetical guys... I know its heavily dependent on run time on each machine and a number...
Hey guys,
I own a small shop and I was thinking about this today.
What would you rather buy to start a production shop, why?
Three Haas VF1
or
Two Haas VF2-SS
or
Kit is installed, but would sell the table, tailstock, 5C collet holder and collet set, plus 3-jaw chuck. I don't want to remove the driver from the machine.
$1,150, plus shipping. If you can...
Have you looked at the Tool Room mills? larger travels.
My bad, I thought the MM2 and SM2 are three phase also...
Good luck in your search!
since everyone is offering up their opinion...
I would look at the VF-1 instead. Nearly the same foot print and same power supply (if I remember right).
Best of luck!!!
Kyle

wow thats a sweet setup!!!
Any recommendations on inserts for 316?
if it works and its yours, who cares. I would love to see a pic though!
thanks guys, I am going to put the work in the spindle. Duality lathe is cool, but I already have a small chinese lathe. haha
Thanks WOG!!!
I have a request from my father-in-law (which means no profit, thus I want to do it at home on my 1100) to make some instruments for his dental surgeries.
It needs to be 316L...
I was thinking of getting one...
Does anyone think it can cut 316L Stainless? Is anyone cutting stainless with it.
Im looking for a CNC lathe and dont have a ton of space or money.
TIA
...
Ill buy it for one of my other haas cncs at work just in case i find a need. (it is a really good deal)
He also has the control box for it. (dont know how much raw translation that can handle).
Can it be done?
A local shop that I use is selling a 210mm Haas rotary table with a horizontal tombstone. I am thinking about getting it for my home shop but don't know if I can get it wired to...
How did you make the code for the Vader head?
Looks great!!!!
Thanks txcnaman. I guess I need to make my own.
A 6" face is what I am looking for. I am thinking I will bolt to the table through the open end with a 20" extension on a ratchet.
I will also...
i checked out those links and none have what i'm looking for.
Im looking for a tombstone that is similar to the Chick Tombstone, but without the vises. I am looking for a simple 4-sided tombstone...
210mm is the dia of my rotary table.
As far as length, I was thinking around 20"
I have the ability to make one, but didnt know if there were companies that stocked these big things.
Thanks...
Im looking for one. Is this something I should make or is there a good source to but them from?
Thanks guys!
Kyle
What does Tormach consider a "really" long program?

Thats a monster program!
I didnt read all 10 pages but i had the same problem with my Tormach.
Make sure there is no CD in the CD drive and no non-essential USB devices pluged in (thumb drives, software keys, etc...).
