Yes there is a loss of torque with low speed. All motors will loose torque is ran below their rated rpm with a vfd. That said, its not anything really noticeable I would say. Its hard to...
My most recent upgrade was to get rid of the varispeed pulleys and belt and switch to a fixed ratio poly vee belt drive. I had the motor armature balanced and was quite surprised at how much it...
A update to this thread which I started. I moved south about 6 years ago and sold the V2e3 because it was not practical to move along with all my other stuff. It is being used in a small shop...
All done, worked out great. The motor armature required quite a bit of balancing which was surprising. Maybe BP only static balanced them back in the day. Before balancing I mounted the...
Any idea what the front shaft to motor shaft distance is? I would like to have the belt on hand when I start. I might get more than one length belt to be on the safe side anyway.
Thanks for the info Martec54 ! I am thinking the plan will be to shorten the motor shaft and take it to the local motor shop to have it balanced for higher rpm's. the browning poly vee...
Thats a great idea Jim. Unfortunately, the spindle on the qc30 boss on mine isn't hollow. Some cnc's are hollow for a drawbar, some are not.
Great info, thanks so much !l
I read many threads on the subject here and all the info you posted in them. I was under the impression that 6000 wasn't a big deal and all the extradordiany...
I'm wondering the same thing now. His profile says he hasn't been on since May this year. Anyone know what the scoop is?
Machintek has always been the human encyclopedia of bridgeports, hopefully he can help me again this time, Edited: looks like he hasn't been on in many months, hope all is ok. Maybe someone...
I have a RF45 retrofit in process and bought the rails for the Z. I won't get to the project for a while but am very interested in the thread.
Thanks for the quick reply! There are 2 auto tune modes, one with "R" which is done with the motor unloaded. Do you think that mode is what I should use for a bridgeport? (put the backgear...
I just bought a Delta VFD-M (VFD015M21A ) to replace the present Cutler Hammer VFD on my bridgeport (Boss3, 2hp). I have done other vfd setups in the past but looking through the delta manual I...
After reading your build I just ordered a set of rails for the Z on my RF45 today. I have a question though... back at post #10 you talked about getting the rails 90 degrees to the table. ...
Very much appreciate the info Martec ! Thanks again.
Thanks much ! Its bigger than I expected. I found a online forum thread where it was said the BP boss Y axis was a 7204 size, which is only 20x47. The X bearing are much much larger being...
I have seen that setup before in other bridgeports. I would like to find the bearing number so I can have them onhand when I go in there. Its old enough that it would be no surprise the bearings...
I have about 2 thou backlash in my Y axis, coming from the ballscrew support bearings. I hate to tear it apart to see what size they are so I can order some. Does anyone have the bearing number...
I just tuned a servo system and ended up with a following error that was sub tenth thousanths. A friend made this statement :
"How come Fagor CNC controls recommends following error to be...
Thanks much for the info Andy. Big harmonic drives would not be easy to come by or inexpensive unfortunately, even on ebay. Another route I am considering is a nema34 servo with a...
Andy, I know this is a old thread but hopefully you still get notifications. I have the identical BS-0 head that I plan on cnc'ing. What size servo did you use? I have been wondering...
You may be a bit confused here. Pathpilot IS linuxcnc, just with some modifications. Plain old Linuxcnc also can use the mesa cards and is extremely common. I have used mesa boards and they...
I bet if you put your post and link in the Mach3 section of the forum you would get more feedback.
I just ordered PP for the 1100 mill along with the manual. I would also want to have the lathe version but could not see anywhere to order that. Does the tormach disk have both lathe and...
Any progress locating the source of the chatter?
The learning curve with linuxcnc is much steeper, you are correct on that but its well worth the effort. Linuxcnc is a true closed loop controller, with capability for handling toolchangers built...
Having used both Mach and Linuxcnc for various retrofits, I wouldn't remotely consider mach for a machine of this caliber. Linuxcnc is far more capable and a set of mesa boards would run that...
Can you give some more info on the vibration dampner rings you mentioned? I have not seen this in any of the threads I have read.
I am not totally convinced that the column is flexing due to the long open slot in the middle. Here is what makes me question that theory.
I had a boyer schultz 6x12 surface grinder that was...
