From an IH mill owner I have just one thing to say:
Just buy one allready :) your not gonna find a better bigger mill for $2000~3000. And once you buy one you can see it in person all you want, lol....
I would'nt bother with the epoxy fill off the bat, yea it may help but it won't super help, you have a million better things to learn/do :) and the fill can allways be done later.
I know my IH...
Hi, im wondering what the little square head screw sticking out the top of my IH mill is for? seems to be threaded into a blind hole on the top casting that holds the motor to the gearbox, and came...
Hmm I read that only babbit bearings really get ruined from foaming, is that true? (That and inconviance of leaving the breather hole if it gets bad, its never gotten that bad for me)
Makes sense if...
well im not even sure if this qualifys as foam or not.. id assume all hydrolic oil would be antifoam to some degree, and it seems more like air inclusion from being mixed in forceabley by the gears...
Hi, im wondering if its normal that the oil in the oil sight on the side of the IH gearbox 'foams up' (lots of little air bubbles about 1mm in size, oil level rises past the top of the sight) when...
kurt better get off its ass and invent something new and wonderful or glacern is gonna displace it as the #1 name in vises. :P
Nice, is that a brand new product because I asked? :)
Good point andre on the pickle. I bet my micrometer could tell the diffrence. (Hot rolled is more inaccurate iirc.. And I bet after eating mill scale off its even more inaccurate)
Hi, while moving my IH mill indoors, I managed to loose a few of the little cylinders that go beween the X/Y/Z lock handle shaft and the actual gib.
I took one and loosely messured it as 20~...
hmm, I think i'll stick to the L gear then, it works, isent to diffacult.. and less chance of me forgeting something on the drawbar.
Hi iv noticed when changing tools, I have to put the mill in low to get enough torque to be able to tighten the drawbar.. but I also noticed that the H/L lever stuck about half way seems to fully...
Hmm, Im wondering now about this. Jack said he 'Locked' the registration.
MasterDesigns said he recovered his key off the crashed HD.
Does this mean he can no longer run future versions of Rams? ...
Anyone ever considered just making a head? Or adapting one to the IH? I mean, its just a GIANT cast iron round plate with 3 holes in it and some reliefs, should be doable on an IH mill with a rotary...
Amazeing video I allways wanted to see how its done! so thats how that pattren is made I thought it was like the grain of the cast iron or something.
LUCKY13: I don't believe (or heard anyone...
awsome, I did'nt know it was made outta 1 peice fabric, I though the sides had to be glued on or something, that video (after a few links, found...
fatal: When did you register with them? Afaik they say 'we will not ship to canada except for select long established customers'
Could you give detailed information on how to go about registering...
Blah, real men just learn complex 3d trig and manualy code G code. And violently crash tools into the 4th or 5th axis when they mess up. :P
mcmaster got fined $8000 or something for shiping to 8 people on 'international watch lists' (post 9/11 export laws yadayada) (mainly to people in the middle east) And thats when they stoped shiping...
Mcmaster refuses to ship to canada yadayada don't wanna get into it.
Hi, anyone here know where to get IH sized way covers? mainly for the Y axis. (and maybe something for the top of the Z just to keep dust out)
Mainly im looking for bellows.. but Id be intrested...
your bottom seems a little excessive strong unless your planing to drop 500+lbs of chips on it. But then, at least it won't rattle..
For your sides, you might want plexiglass or fiberglass or even...
Glad to hear some companys still know how to make really expensive stuff cheaply, And not just price cheap stuff really expensively.
a $300 vise may not seem 'cheap' but the only other name iv...
ray: Don't become a satistic! Use your quill stop! Every other day, an innocent vise is mamed by a loose nut behind the drill.
This message brought to you by those against violence to vises....
Yea definately don't tool crash with those, there won't be a tool left :)
Great if you wanna use your mill as a shaper though. :P
But yea those servos are awsome. some (smaller) mills have...
Wow that looks AWSOME! Details details! ballscrews yet? How big are those XYZ motors? Servo or steper? Im guessing servo at that size. *drools* you did an amazeing job on the electrical box! Maybe a...
Ahhh caps over the screw heads in the ways, thats a nice trick!
I might just upgrade my kurt vise with that.. as much as I hate altering expensive things...
Nice, other then the unmatched bed height, that 2nd vise is what iv been looking for. I can understand why you had to make it taller to get the bolts to fit in the way you did, iv heard from some...
Wow awsome vise. If I did'nt recently buy a kurt 688 for $600~cnd I woulda likely bought that insted. though I notice yours doesnt have that little workstop grove and stop included. (Yea! go little...
