  1. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

    Ta Peter.

I am going to be in Brisbane for the foreseeable future - Hopefully I will find a space that satisfies my wife's criteria (normal human housing) and mine - 4 garages worth of...
  2. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

    Hi all.

Minimal progress on the build, a couple deaths in the family, followed by the confirmation that I am moving to Australia in the middle of November have made my life incredibly hectic all...
  3. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

I am not sure what this is in reference to Peter?
  4. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

Its kind of you to think there was any spare oxygen in my lungs for belting "the hills are alive" :)
  5. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

Weekend spent climbing a mountain with the missus, so no real progress on Steve.

I did manage to put some cable management on the frame without too much effort, and added the protection fuses for...

Congrats Peter! It is a special moment when the motors do what they are supposed to and the smoke stays inside the bits???? I am climbing a mountain this weekend, so it's unlikely I will have...
  7. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

    Getting closer...

Waiting for some more 4 core cable, then will add the second spindle plug, and the 15 core cable for the MPG and Encoder plugs, and the touch probe wiring, and the fuses for the...
  8. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

    Thanks Craig.

    I will try this.
  9. Thanks Craig! The parameters are pretty...

    Thanks Craig!

The parameters are pretty clearly laid out in the manual thankfully, and it's easy enough to adjust with the push buttons on the drive panel.

    I don't really need the reverse, I...
  10. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

Spindle control question time. I want to output the same 0-10v signal to both spindle drives at the same time, only the one which is powered up will do anything with the info though...

    The normal...
  11. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

220 v circuit done (mostly - fuses still on their way)

Switch engages the contactors for either spindle drive - EMI filters on the inputs of the drives, and the psus....
  12. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

Does anyone know what the power supply requirement is for the 24v psu? I can save some space by using a little 2A 24v psu in place of the bigger 10A one.

I have been fiddling around with...
  13. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

    Thanks Loren!
  15. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

    alignment and assembly progressing,

The gantry assembly is nice and rigid, I can back drive the slave screw on the x axis by pushing on the master side, no twisting or shifting off 90 deg. All...
  16. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

Thats what is in my head when I say EMI filter...

I do notice it doesnt have an earth line on the output, how do I maintain earth integrity to my PSU's?

Re: Designing a new router called Brevis-HD

Can you elaborate on this a little please Mac? I intend to pull live neutral and earth busses from a 3 prong plug into my enclosure for my 220v lines, the VFD will be wired to these bus terminals,...
  19. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

more paint... I do not like it Sam-I-Am.

Re: Designing a new router called Brevis-HD

    Thanks Mac/Peter

That makes sense. I am sure the cabinet in most peoples cases will be switched rather than direct to plug wired.
  21. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

OK time for me to learn...

Questions for the clever sparky people around:

    EMI control:
Do I need to put EMI filters on the individual incoming lines to each PSU, or will one to the VSD be...
  22. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

    Thanks Craig!

That is exactly the kind of answer I was hoping for, I really appreciate the time you took to type it.

I have a cheap red usb mach breakout board, it has very limited IO, so limit...
  23. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

Further questions - does a servo motor drive create the same noise as a typical chinese 1-3phase vsd?

I found a suitable 20A filter for the VSD.

The pc and driver PSU's will se about 1.7kw ...
  24. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

You make a good point Joe...

though, in my defence (however feebly), I have every intention to upgrade the control, and I can buy a ESS or mesa set now, or I can get a suitably thick base...
  25. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

    Noted with thanks.

Correct, pretty much the same spindle split that you use, a bt30 cartridge for low rpm work, and a 24krpm router spindle for the rest, they wont be on the machine at the same...
  26. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

    Re: DIY CONCRETE CNC

Very clean build, looks like you took some inspiration from Piotr's machine. Cuts look great.
  28. Re: Anyone used/using Vevor 2.2kw VFD ? model A2-8022

Help me out with the breaker rating please Mac - I have run, and do still run, VFD's at 2.2kw on a 16 amp circuit with no concerns...?
  29. Re: Reasonably Rigid Router (RRR) - a cautionary tale (likely) in the making.

Some movement - but not enough.

Painting all done, and the wheel scan go on:
