What's up CNC junkies?!
Has anyone out there made a holder like this to hold their carbide inserts at the machine like this one?

Yes sir! Got a cute lil' nema23 servo package...I'm mounting ball screws as we speak...should have some updates very shortly!
Matt!! Remember me?! We haven't talked in some months...I bought my first house in March and haven't had a lick of time to work on my machine until about 2 days ago. Your machine is coming along...
Matt,
I'm on YouTube looking for our next project already.......a hexapod machine :)

I've been stagnant for the last month, waiting for the servo funds to be completed. But finallllyyyyyy....yes! ordered all the electronics last night. Total electronics price came to $1,264 USD....
ahhhh, you really can't beat that sound of a well aligned machine. Did you write a small program for those moves or were you just jogging? I was noticing how the Z-car pauses, travels a bit more,...
Just ordered my servos and all other electronics/cables/connectors! The whole package came to $1,264 USD. I'll take some pics when things start showing up!

Dude....let's see a video!!! I'm ordering my servos tonight!!

Niiiiiiiice

Very nice!! Those are some good sized motors and I didn't realize they were AC motors until I looked them up online just now. Sweeeeet. My motors will be quite a bit smaller with .4nm continuous and...
Ha! Matt, I'll be ordering mine within a few days....the funds are almost there! Got any torque specs on those ladies?

So we're both doing servos for sure!! Servo twin powers, activate!

That's a pretty slick yet ultra simple dampening setup. I'll probly have to do that on my Y axis....the screw is 16mm diameter and 1000mm long....

Matt,
The servo funds will be ready within the next 2 weeks! What's this screw damping setup you mentioned earlier? I'd like to check that out

Bahahaha

I heard only the cool kids have servos

Enough fiddle faddle! Let's do servos!

Matt,
I'll do direct drive servos if you do direct drive servos! Ha!
Cheers,
Andrew

Remember that servos usually have poorer low-end torque when head-to-head with a comparable stepper. You'll have more than enough speed on your rapids but sometimes you can get low-speed "cogging"...
This is all the fun part of DIY machine design!.....variables!

I don't know how often you make it into the mini mill forums, but that guy is the DIY cnc king lol. Look through his videos and website....extreeeeemeley knowledgeable. He knows how to tune some...
....also, those drivers in his video have a rating of only 45v Max.....

This subject made a video pop in my head from YouTube. Granted, he's running the Keling digital drivers, but the larger 570 oz. Motors. Not sure of his ball screw pitch. Running 45khz........
Another note is that your gantry looks like its got some weight to it...definitely a factor. Steppers lose torque dramatically at higher speeds. I don't know what kind of accuracy you want, but...
Just for a reference....I was running the same Keling 425 oz. motors with a 65v PSU on my old mini mill setup (X3), with my kernal speed at 25,000hz, accel set to 15 on the motors, .200" pitch ball...
Another quick note....."upgrading" to bigger motors will only slow you down. The larger stepper motors have a gain in torque but are almost always at a sacrifice to speed and responsiveness

Yikes!! Even with the 5mm screw pitch, you should be able to get 150ipm with that setup no problem. One of the major factors(along with your PSU voltage of course) that determines your rapids is the...
This is so gnarley. Looking great my friend. Where did you get that really nice stranded cable with the clear casing?
