Brian,
How is your X3 motor and 5600 RPM spindle mod holding up? What RPMs have you been running at mostly? I'm about to do the modification. Had to cut off the gear on the motor because it was...

Brian,
How is your X3 motor and 5600 RPM spindle mod holding up? What RPMs have you been running at mostly? I'm about to do the modification. Had to cut off the gear on the motor because it was...
Heating up the pulley did help and I was able to get the jaws of the puller underneath the pulley. However, the pulley is really stuck now. I should have beveled the snap ring grove as suggested but...
Nice increase in productivity. Sounds like the Tormach will pay for itself very quickly. Too bad they don't have the 10,000 RPM on the 1100 series so you can cut even faster.
Because I'm bad at...
Tried grinding the jaws of a cheap Harbor Freight puller to fit but it just kept slipping out. My feeling is I'll have to keep modding the puller until it just works.
Brian,
How do you like your new Tormach? Did you keep your X3? My next machine will be a Tormach. Learned a lot with the X3 but there's still so much more to do like adding limit switches,...
Thinking of extending my Z height on the X3 by adding aluminum spacer blocks between the z column and base. Will probably buy some longer base bolts and try to extend the height by 6 inches. Anyone...
Anyone have tricks on removing a stuck motor pulley? The shaft on my mill motor has a keyed slot and retaining ring. As I try to pull off the pulley I believe that it is getting stuck on the sharp...
I agree. G0704 is the better machine and a better price. I got an X3 instead only because at the time CNC Fusion did not have a kit ready for the G0704.
Pay close attention to how the Z head is...
I did the X3 long table conversion from LMS. The X3 long table you get from LMS will also not be tapped. The owner of LMS said that is normal since every table is custom fitted to the end plate....
Viking,
Nice ring light and welcome to the power drawbar club! It looks like you managed to get a 3 stage, 4" diameter, 1/2" throw Fabco cylinder shipped to Finland. I see you used a nice blue...
She's still working great. My favorite part of the mill is the PDB and Tormach TTS holders. I'm sure folks would like to see your progress.
There are 68 balls total. Each ball nut has 4 recirculating tracks with 17 balls for each track.
I did something similar on my CNC Fusion deluxe kit. The ball nuts don't have an external recirculating tube that makes it easy to drop balls into the nut. I ended up using really thick grease to...
Same thing here. Ordered a batch, arrived today by DHL within a week to MD and so far it fits flush against the spindle face just like the real TTS holders. Will buy some cheap collets from Shars...
Thanks. I think I might be imagining things. The high impact, high tensile, machinable ABS from McMaster is the same part number. The only other part# was for conductive/flame retardant ABS.
I'll...
I've been machining a lot of 1/4" ABS plastic on my benchtop mill. The ABS stock is smooth on one side and rough on the other. Got the stock from ServoCity.
Well, I just bought some 1/4, 1/2, 3/4...
I'm beginning to think using degreaser on the TTS shank was a mistake. There is also rust on the inside of my R8 TTS collet. From what I hear then, you'll are implying that using a little bit of rust...
Is it common for the TTS holders to develop surface rust? In particular, I'm worried that rust on the 3/4" shank will affect the holding forces. I did use a degreaser on the shank but don't think...
Thanks for the link. I was going to buy a similar R8 chuck from Shars with a good TIR (1 thou)
shars.com - 4quot Three Jaw Precision Chuck amp R8 Adaptor
but I converted my mill to use a power...
Thanks. Machining the TTS blank is the way to go. It would be stronger than using the 3/8" to 3/4-16 adapter kludge that could shear off during something like a machine crash.
Your thoughts please on this crazy adapter idea:
I found this 3/8" shaft to 3/4-16 stainless steel adapter below from High Tech Systems LLC:

I'm drooling at the last picture. I thought CNC dilling, pocketing and contouring was pretty cool but thread milling beats them all.
I've heard the same thing. On my mill I'm pretty careless about the MDF because it is a spoil board for my plastic/metal cutting. However, on my 4'x8' router I do have a giant MDF bed along with a...
For a 10-24 I see this description:
"Use to cut a 10-24UN or larger thread; .140 Cutting Diameter; 3/16" Shank Diameter; (7).292 LOC; 2.5" OAL; TiALN Coated"
Since I can't see pics does...
Right. I saw a Hoss video where he used a ground tap for threadmilling.
I see threadmill bits used by pros for a few hundred bucks but would like something already made in the tens of dollars...
Anyone know of cheap sources for single tooth threadmill bits in the US? I'm blown away by some of the videos I've seen on Youtube and want to experiment using just MDF and plastic stock to make...
I was thinking the same thing. Vision is tricky but once people figure it out and share information (by contributing to open source code & like forums) then folks won't have to reinvent the wheel. I...
That's a really nice machine you have. I'm trying to build a low cost machine so feeders are out for now until someone comes up with a cheapo version.
I'm actually running out of time and will...
That's making sense. The video shows the high-pass using something like a Canny edge detector. He mentions that he's adding up pixels in the video and the resultant is the bottom graphs with peaks...
Nisma,
Can you detail the algorithm for determining part rotation using histograms? I am new to vision processing. Access to sample code would be nice. I'm trying to use OpenCV to control my...
