Are you sure that your beam is going through the nozzle without hitting the inside (i.e. is centered)? Typically when you see 2 cut lines then the beam is reflecting off of something, usually the...

Great! Coincidentally, I have just started to add an actual air compressor to my 50W laser.
I purchased this compressor:

Wow, nice work Charliex! Like almost everyone else, I find EZCad extremely frustrating and unfriendly, so I am looking forward to trying out your tools.
Sorry, I missed the part about your E-Stop in your original post. There are different ways to wire up an E-Stop, but typically it cuts power to the entire controller/system, so I don't understand how...
Ok, let me try to describe this accurately (it was a few years ago when I wired it up). I am using these sensors:
...
I have a G540 that I use with proximity sensors. I am not in the shop today but when I do I will take a picture of how they are wired.
I don't have a K40, I have a 50W eBay blue&white laser, but I can give you some general advice on your questions.
1. Your picture is really blurry, so I can't make a guess if your focus is off....
Search Youtube for a user named SarbarMultimedia. Russ has done a pretty detailed study of the effects of airflow, and tested two different sized air pumps on his 50W/60W laser.
Episode 87:...
Sorry to hear that. The Cambam is one of the most helpful and informative forums that I have joined. I am not at my CAM machine right now, but if I remember correctly the GRBLMachine plugin creates a...
Are you talking about the GRBLMachine plugin?
GRBL v1.1 Machine Control and GCODE sender Plugin
If so, I would ask on the Cambam forum, since the creator of the plug-in is very helpful:
GRBL...
Acrylic (assuming you are ok with its brittle material properties) is excellent for lasering, both cutting and engraving.
I have the Shenhui SH-G350, which is commonly known as the blue eBay 50W (500x300mm) laser. I have been using it non-stop for the last 2.5 years cutting 1/8" & 1/4" acrylic, delrin, and etching...
Great idea! I just bought a cheap one to give it a try.
Well, I have only bought 1 replacement tube for my laser in the 3 years that I have owned it, and I bought the SPT from LightObjects because of the reasonable price and the fact that I needed it...
I have never heard of a CO2 tube made specifically for engraving and not cutting. 60W should be 60W, so either tube should both engrave and cut. I am guessing it is a miscommunication or...
ianogos meant to spell it "radii", the plural of radius. Your second image has large radii where the vertical walls hit the bottom plate. All machined parts need radii in the direction parallel to...
I have both an older Taig (leadscrews/CNC'd) and a newer PM-25MV that I CNC'd using arizonavideo99's ballscrew kit and a G540/UCCNC combo. Both are great machines, but it really depends on what...
Have you contacted Russ at SarbarMultimedia on YouTube? He created what he calls a "Dohickey" that can measure laser power output. Not sure if he still sells them, but it might be worth asking.
...
I have never tried the Trocen units, but I have been very happy with the Ruida, especially now that there is a US-based 3rd party controller software package available (LightBurn) for it.
FYI, the underneath structure of the Taig lathe is an aluminum extrusion, but the ways/dovetails on top are steel.
I had almost the exact same setup (Soigeneris G540/Smoothstepper USB not Ethernet/Mach 3/Taig Mill). Compared to the price to upgrade to Mach4, I would seriously consider looking at a UC300ETH-5LPT...
On my Taig, I jam a piece of foamcore between the pulley and spindle body to prevent the spindle from rotating (low-tech but it works). You could also machine a spindle lock that uses a wrench head...
I don't have one on my machine, but Franco (on Youtube) put one on a PM-25MV, which is very similar to a G0704.
One other thing to check in the future so that you don't damage your laser tube. Laser tubes have a maximum amperage that they should be run at. However, these Chinese machines are not calibrated so...
Ok, lots of things to check. To answer your specific questions:
a. Not sure if I am visualizing what you are describing, but assuming you didn't make any adjustments to the tube then it shouldn't...
My cheap 50W Chinese eBay laser (which is actually an over-spec'd 40W tube) cuts through 1/4" acrylic easily in 1 pass, so taking 4 passes to cut 1/8" acrylic sounds like the tube is dying.
I highly recommend ArizonaVideo99's (David Clements') conversion kit, very high quality and really easy assembly.

I bought a CNC kit from Dave for my PM-25MV late last year and am very happy with it. Highly recommended!
All good solutions, but the Mitutoyo 050103 double-ended center finder is only $19 on Amazon.
I don't have a Sherline (I have a Taig), but yes it appears that most edge finders/wobblers are 3/8" or 1/2" shank diameters. To start out I would buy a manual double ended edge finder like a...
