Did you not catch the wink at the end of my ridiculous statement? I'm not that much of a moron! :D

Yeah, those CNC machines make the wear put on by skating look like a minor blemish ;)
It looks as if one of the dogs even has IR proximity sensors in its eyes. To be feared, for sure.
Can't wait to see more pics as assembly progresses!

Thanks for the heads up. My ability to look ahead for such things is not so great :).
Bill,
This is why I'm the newbie and you're the guy with a working mill. :)

Donny - never mind, I got the e-mail!
I don't have any experience with Data Cut plans, but I did want to offer you luck from one newbie to another. Like ynneb said, lots of pictures!
Donny,
No e-mail on my end.
I work down the street from CDA power tool, maybe I'll stop in on my way home. I'll have to look up AR and Bixbie as well. This may end up being a busier weekend...
Bill,
Thanks for the pics, now I understand. I do have a question, however. You said you'd chuck the rod and use a file to turn down the ends. One end is several feet away and none too stable,...
Donny,
A wee bit of a long jump :). However, I would love to get out there and check out your CNC and shop sometime. I'll even bring my own rag to catch the drool. The near future holds 3 (3!)...
Phil,
I read your reply and your OPed piece. I now own a HF tap and die set, forstner bit set, and digital calipers :) :). Ain't nothing in this house that's not going to get either tapped,...
Talk about a good neighbor. Thanks for the offer, Donny, seriously. That's an effective way to carry on such a tradition. Where in the panhandle are you? I actually work in CDA, so I could be a...
And I happen to have a Harbor Freight just down the street from me. Buying new tools is always a bit of a rush, and I've been telling my wife that I need to do some of the spending for once, so it...
I feel like an utter fool for asking this.
I read a lot about people turning down the ends of rods themselves and tapping as well. I don' t have any tools that can do anything like this. Should...
Wow, it can be done! Yes, Virginia, there is a cheap CNC mill. This is inspirational to someone who has neither the money nor the expertise yet. Any idea on total cost?
Judging by even that short description, I think I've bitten off more than I can chew in trying to understand this. Thank you for showing me the extent of my ignorance  ;).
Did you ever find anything out about polishing the cut sides of acrylic?
Constantly moving up and down while cutting. If you can picture a circular pattern with a sloping profile on both sides...
Vac, you mentioned using PIC basic...have you settled on a particular PIC? Just curious. I'd lend a hand with the PIC code, but my experience is strictly PIC assembly, and probably more limited...
Gerry-
What's in my mind are the intricate relief pieces you see (I guess they'd be 3D). There are complicated designs complete with circles, arcs, and freehand draws. Then the CNC comes along and...
Harley, are there any suppliers in the NW that you'd recommend (for anything)?
I apologize if this is the inappropriate place to post this.
The software developer in me always wants a piece of the action. It seems that the real heart of the magic is in the generation of the...
vacpress - while I agree that the open source movement is an amazing testament to the human spirit of bettering itself, it's also a nasty breeding ground for gargantuan egos. That aspect would be my...
You got one done, that's what counts! Count yourself among the few, the proud. A group I hope to someday join myself.
Thanks for the responses! I think I landed in the right place, you all are very encouraging and helpful. I gotta tell you, this is nothing like the software industry, you people are nice.
Cold...
Good morning!
I've been lurking in this forum for a few days because I've been wanting to build a CNC machine for months now, but the winter weather and a baby boy have kept me out of the garage....
