A tip I got from a retired painter :
To stop wood from absorbing the paint and needing multiple coats , apply one thin coat of latex or emulsion paint...
Big red's alive :)
Good news indeed .
Can't wait to see the next pieces of art it'll create .
Glad to hear it's resurected . :)
Tell me , if you're running XP anyway , why the motion controller ?
I mean XP supports the parallel port right , and a chinese breakoutboard will cost less then...
amazing figures for sure . Didn't realise it was that long ago .
And indeed a good thing you added that safety !
Btw , what happend with that stepper driver that broke down .

Thank you for releasing the sources . I have a dedicated flash drive wheer I store them all .
That will give me something to play with , if ever I get my router finished that is .
What's the...
Eric , a little advice if you don't mind .
I need to design my gantry now .
I v'e build the base with the x-axis slides and a t-slot plate .
And I've build a z-axis .
So now I need to...
This is lovely :) .
Does your friend use brushes to apply the paint , or some other techniques like fi felt rollers or airbrush maybe .
.
I have a router related question if you don't mind...
Is it possible to change the bearings ?
Bearings are cheap , but more and more they make things in such a way that they can't be serviced anymore .
Last week it took me 6 hours and a one hour...
It sure does . Maybe some day you could take some pictures of the various stages of the painting proces .
Pat
Eric here's maybe an idea if you 're looking to design something .
I have - job related - a fair amount of rotating nut steppers .
It's a kind of computerized valve , wich jams after a while ,...
I was wondering about that little setscrew .
I 've got sbr16 rails and trucks , and if i put a truck on the rail there's noticeable play between the rail and the truck .
I thought I needed to...
Throw a few 100$ at it and you'll get something better . Sure
Throw in a few 1000$ an and you'll get something superb . Offcourse
Now ad some more 10.000$ and you can buy your own ready made cnc...
I don't know , the rods and ball bearings somehow feel more ridgid then the thompson like rails .
I've also got a few of those , so I just might give it a go . .
All sides will be surfaced and...
I'll use the C bearings offcourse that came with the hardened rods .
But the sliding block will be custom made on the mill .
Pat
Yes indeed , the top will be an aluminium t-slot plate , and the entire frame will be machined in one setup .
I think I'll go for option E for thetracks .
Pat
Nice looking machine :)
why do you use a dual leadscrew ?
With this setup you can easily put the leadscrew in the center of the sliding block
Ian , iy's true a moving x-axis with fixed gantry will make the sturdiest machine possible .
But that would reduce the workable x-axis by half and it's already quite small .
So for this one...
Yes I thought of that to in the first place but that would take away the ridgitity of the frame .
If I wanted that , I 'de better weld 4 strips together to make a "box" .
Pat
Forgot to mention , the sides of the frame will be milled to obtain a true surface and to remove the tabs .
The general dimensions are a bit larger then A4 or letter sized paper .
Goal is...
I found this great little frame in cast aluminium .
I think , a very good base to build a desktop cnc router .
I'll be using 16mm supported rails and C style lineair bearings , 1605 balnuts and...
Yes , exactly what I was thinking .
Thx for the reply
Any idea why 60/300 would be used ?
And here's a picture of the motor and the wantai driver .

Nice job !
Care to elaborate how you're gonna regrind the spindle internal taper ?

Folks , if anyone has a driver board fried or not , working or not with or without modifiactions they'de care to get rid of . Drop me a private meassage , I 'm interested in buying one .

Yes I did .
I've tried various steppers from my salvaged steppers drawer .
Some performed a little better , but all in all results were still poor .
I tried 4 and 8 wire steppers , various...
The first tests .
The machine works allright .
I can jog with mach3 , all axis move smoothly .
Some preliminary tests with a dial indicator show a promising repeatability .
There's a...
BTW guy's , does anyone know how to get the spindle relais working ?
Must be some setting in mach I'm overlooking but I can't get the relais to respond .
If I manually ground the corresponding...
Here's what causes the lost or missed steps :
Pretty obvious once you can see it on a scope :

This is the step signal with...
Did you ever try this without inverting the polarity in mach3 but
flip one stepper winding instead to change direction of the motors ?
I think that ought to clear the error to , with the opto...
