Look into a local shop to waterjet the slab. It shouldn't be too expensive if you get a few done at once.

Sure, but they're $20ea and SPST. :P Adds up fast when you need six. It's probably easier to buy a second VFD for $150, but I like the challenge of learning something new.
Thanks! I'll add...
I'm planning on using my Hitachi SJ200 VFD as a drive for both my lathe and mill. To switch between the motors (1 and 2 hp 3 phase), I was going to use a 120V latching relay (does a 4PDT exist?). To...
Are the motor parameters & constants set correctly? Max Full Load Amp, Max Hz, Motor capacity, poles, etc... Most are in the H group settings.
Manual:...
That's exactly what I did. I used the lathe's Fwd-Off-Rev barrel switch as a SPDT for PCS to Term1 and Term2, and have the motor directly connected to the VFD. When Term1 gets the voltage from PCS,...
ViperTX - It's possible to get the reverse bends from from flat stock, if you make the panel from the other side. The right 3 sections are connected by the bottom panels, and where it gets to the...
Massajamesb - Which 3 in 1 do you have? How do you like it?
schiada96 - Can you explain? I didn't quite understand. Doubling the weld might be worth it, if it's easy to fabricate.
I've...
Al,
Thanks for bringing that up. I guess I mis-spoke in calling the ground a neutral?
I've got a 240V 50A 3 prong flat blade plug for the shop extension cord (originally to let me move the TIG...
Is it possible to bend something to a closed shape? The parts I'm working with are made from 2x1x.125 steel box tubing.
Using a brake (is there one that can handle short lengths (6" or less) of...
Follow up: I purchased the Hitachi SJ200-15-NFU, wired up the two 240V hots to the incoming terminals, the neutral to their neutral lug, the 3 motor wires to the output terminals, and a neutral to...

After attempting to win something on Ebay for 2 weeks, I gave up and bought a Hitachi SJ200-015-NFU, so yes, I bought a 230V single phase drive. :)
I'm looking at the Hitachi SJ200's and L200's, as well as the Teco FM100's, or possibly a GS something from Automation Direct. They all seem to be about $200-$300. This is for a 2hp lathe motor......
hoju1301 - Have you found any more info on this? I've seen many more 400V class inverters on Ebay, which would be an inexpensive way to get started. Are most 400V units strictly 3 phase input, and...
Bringing back this post from the dead... I've been curious about wiring the 2 speed motor to a VFD, since that's what my new (to me, actually a 1977ish) South Bend lathe has (2 hp 2 speed 3 phase...
Friday night I drove down to a friends, who teaches at the University of Delaware, and found a great deal on a lathe (a South Bend 13x40, CL0145B, barely used) they needed to get rid of. The next...
A university machine shop is consolidating, and I just acquired a Southbend CL0145B lathe for $400. The two exits are a loading dock (std semi height) without a hoist and a handycapped ramp with a...
