Re: Why use a pulse index card?

That's sorta what I figured. I'm only a little familiar with Schmitt Triggers so I'll read up on that just for fun. I don't have access to a scope but I was thinking the same thing. I may need to...

Why use a pulse index card?

I have a C3 pulse index card for my G0602 (working great), and am going to add a second spindle sensor so LinuxCNC sees both an index pulse and a phase pulse. I really have no idea why I'm using the...

If your tach isn't reliable, check the bracket that the sensor is mounted to. It is a common issue that the bracket holes are poorly located and your sensor is not as far over the spindle encoder...

    Re: Emergency Stop e-stop

    Thanks guys!

I was considering using a low voltage switch and running it to a relay, but a friend of mine pointed out that if the relay froze open then it wouldn't be a fail safe at all. I have no...

    Emergency Stop e-stop

Having upgraded my G0704 to a 2.8HP DC motor and KBMM-225D controller, I am currently putting together a new box to hold all the electronics. Of course I need to run an e-stop, but I'm having trouble...

Re: KBMM-225D and 2.8HP Treadmill Motor

I'll take a look at the PWM series but I prefer not to buy another drive if in can avoid it.

Re: KBMM-225D and 2.8HP Treadmill Motor

I have the resistor sized per their instructions, and both the motor and drive are rated at 15amps. I would have been less surprised if it overloaded at low RPM while trying to maintain torque, but...

Re: KBMM-225D and 2.8HP Treadmill Motor

Yes it is 220vac to get 180vdc. I'll hook up an ammeter and see how much load I'm pulling as the voltage goes up.

    KBMM-225D and 2.8HP Treadmill Motor

I've been working on this upgrade for a while, and finally got to test it out tonight (no milling yet, and no load on the motor). This drive is supposed to be for 90v or 180v motors, and since mine...
  11. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

Good point. I am planning on a timing belt set which I would assume needs less radial loading to operate, but I have no experience on the matter.
  12. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

Haha, I'd be OK with it.

I think the bulk of the posts in this thread are about bearings, and I'm pretty sure my original post was about drive motors (per the thread title)......

    I just...

While staring at the guts of this thing I just realized I don't need any of this quill assembly. I removed the quill arms when I CNC'd a couple years ago and have never used it since. That's less...
  14. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

Thanks. I've already got all the spindle bearings (bought almost a year ago and never got around to upgrading). The only bearings I need are the 6007 and 6209 for the quill.

    I was about to pull...
  15. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

    Thanks websrvr.

I think the main thing here is that this is a cheap mill, which already has cheap bearings and what we can only assume (at best) to be a medium quality spindle. Since OK bearings...
  16. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

I was just looking at those larger bearings now. I'm going to need to order some, I can't get mine out though. Maybe a large drift from the bottom of the head?

I'll let you know if I find some,...
  17. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

Sounds like I was just backwards. Whatever I have, they weren't the most expensive. I'm not afraid if I have to upgrade.
  18. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

I bought new bearings but haven't swapped them in yet. They are ABEC7 or something, but if they fail I'll go to the expensive ones (ABEC1?).

The Kluber grease calculation says I can go to 16kRPM...

  20. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

Thanks. I've been told the AC Spindle has a flatter torque curve than DC.

Also, as a 3phase spindle advertised to go as low as 4kRPM, a 3:1 reduction could give me a nice range of 1400RPM to...
  21. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

    Haha! Thanks Carl.
  22. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

While the above post is very detailed, I'm not looking to spend that kind of money on a machine this size. The poster said he won't see this response, but I appreciate the time spent on such a...
  23. Re: New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

    Thanks for the info.

I have read that people have been able to run this spindle as low as 200 RPM at 10amps, but if I did a 3:1 reduction 600RPM would be the same result. Its water cooled so I...
  24. New Motor for G0704 (DC treadmill vs AC Spindle)

My motor burned up this week, so I figure it's time for an upgrade and a belt drive. I have a couple of those huge 3.8HP DC treadmill motors and a KBMM-225D-KB for the drive (plus heatsink, and all...

Re: Larger balls in the C7 ballscrews

I've reloaded the screws with the standard .125" balls but haven't put the mill back together yet. If I can't get it sorted out this time (about the 4th time I've take it apart looking for the...

Re: Larger balls in the C7 ballscrews

I don't know if I would say "freely" from side to side, as I run my gibs pretty tight.... but I always have. I considered stiction, but am not really sure how to test for that. I'll clean everything...

Re: Larger balls in the C7 ballscrews

Larger balls in the C7 ballscrews

    Hello!

I have some 1605 ballscrews from linearmotionbearing2008 (in my CNC G0704) and have had good luck for the first year or so that I've had them. Lately I have been getting some weird backlash...

Re: Feed rate for engraving on G0704

Thanks! I had great results at 5ipm in aluminum, and I tried some titanium at 1ipm (just for fun) with more great results :)

I was going to link that video too ;)
Many of the video comments are from people who have the Shars vice, and they all seem to be happy with them.
