I just had a look at the optimum catalogue and the MH-28 is no longer listed. They are still for sale in Australia however.... It is smaller than the BF30.

Has anyone done a conversion on the optimum mh-28 bench mill?
I have one and am looking to do a conversion.

I have a benchtop mill. I want to make a cnc router one day but thought I will need the mill to help make a router and to learn about machining in general.
I also have a lathe that I converted to...
Yeah I assumed a wood router is not up to it. I also expect to need good quality linear rails and ball screws and steel construction....and plenty of time and $$ ;-)
Some good points to ponder there, thanks for taking the time to respond everyone.
With an 18 month old boy and another due in a few weeks I won't get much time to play in the near future. Some...
I was expecting to see big heavy steel machines but not a bamboo one! That is impressive.
In terms of work envelope I am thinking about 600mm x 400mm x 150mm. Any smaller and I think I might be...
I am keen to make a CNC router mostly for working with Aluminium but would like to be able to do the odd bit of steel machining. All for hobby purposes so don't need production quality or speed.
I...
I have been through similar thoughts.
We used to have the part number the same as the drawing number. We found one downside was that this did not allow several parts on one drawing. The result was...
I am looking at 20mm rails/guides and 1000mm long.

Ops, I seemed to miss that Automation4less sell the rails as single items and the SBR guides on ebay are sold as pairs. So the HIWIN are about twice the cost. Not sure about shipping costs as I was...
I've done some more reading and there are several examples of moving gantry machines working with Aluminium so it is possible but as pointed out will require some attention to detail to make sure the...
Thanks for the feedback guys, some real good points there I hadn't considered.
I am short on space so was hoping to get away with a moving gantry design rather than a moving table. But as I said...
figured out how to upload pics....read the FAQ.

Hello to all the cnczone people,
I am keen to make a cnc router, partially to make things and partially to make a router! One of my requirements is to be able to work with Aluminium so I figure I...
