The following characteristics apply to all standard sizes as well as lubricated and separable spindle ball bearings.

- Nominal contact angle 15°–25°
- Forces are transferred at this contact angle from one raceway to another
- Optimized for maximum RPM
- Takes high radial and axial loads
- These must be placed against a second bearing
- Larger number of balls than with deep groove ball bearings
