\r\n Need help with your Fadal?\r\n

\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n A brief history:
\n
\nI worked at Fadal as an engineer for over 23 years. When service technicians were unable to fix problems out in the field, I was called to go out and fix the problem. In 23 years, I have never left a machine down in the field (thank God).
\n
\nSince the Fadal plant closed earlier last year, I have started my own company repairing and selling parts, as well as rebuilding and servicing machines.
\n
\nAs a courtesy to all CNC Zone members, I offer free technical support over the phone and through email. Even if you have limited technical knowledge, most of the time I can help you diagnose your issue by walking you through it.
\n
\nI don\'t always have the time to sit here and type up a response but I do when I get the chance.
\n
\nI am not restricted M-F 9-5 as most companies are. I understand some of you operate your machines at night and have deadlines to meet. Feel free to give me a call anytime at my office (818) 678-9456. You can also reach me on my cell (818) 625-9948. I am often up late/early on the phone with clients overseas.
\n
\nIf you are located in southern California, feel free to drop by my shop. I\'m located down the street from where the old Fadal plant was in Chatsworth, California.
\n
\nThank you!

\r\n Koshy helped me solve an issue with one of our Fadals. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. When he offers up troubleshooting advice, do what I did and call him.
    \r\n Thanks again Koshy!\r\n

    \r\n Hi Koshy,
\r\nCan you get any updates for the infimatic control . You came here and serviced my machine once in buffalo n.y. Mag Technology said they would have to send a service rep. out to do it. windows based why can\'t I just download it. Do have some intermittent glitches . turn off and restart goes away.

\r\n If an axis makes sort of a \'bububububububub\' sound when it\'s moving, that\'s the \'tach is dirty\' sound (or at least the \'tach has something wrong with it\' sound).
    \r\n
\r\nSometimes you can get rid of it by putting some ethanol on a Q-tip and cleaning the tach. I set the machine to move back and forth at 50IPM or so, so that the tach\'s spinning relatively slowly.
    \r\n
\r\nIdeally you\'d take everything apart and clean it up really good to stop it from happening again soon, but sometimes you don\'t have the option of a day of downtime to clean a motor.
    \r\n
\r\n(feel free to note if I\'m wrong here, iess...I\'m not an expert on this stuff, just a guy who keeps his Fadal running!)\r\n

Cleaning the tach does fix the problem but eventually it comes to a point where you need to change the brush.\r\n

\r\n I am looking for someone who can answer questions related to programming utilizing macros and subprograms. Would you be my man and if not could you point to someone who can. I actually came to the Chatsworth plant for my Operator Training and worked with Able Santana. Any chance you would know how to reach him?
    \r\n
    \r\nThanks\r\n

Fadal put out a supplement on macros, which I have a copy of. It\'s not scanned yet, so hopefully someone here has an "e"-copy they could email you, or maybe post here. It has examples and is very helpful.
\nBoth Neil and Able were always very helpful to me in the past.
    \n
\n.... Btw, in the Fadal User Manual Section 18 you\'ll find a dedicated treatise on macros...PM me if you can\'t find a copy.\r\n

\r\n YOUR Z AXIS DRIFTING DOWN AFTER POWER DOWN IS A SURE SIGN THAT THE Z AXIS GIBBS ARE NOT IN ADJUSTMENT - I BELIEVE A VMC 4020A HAS LINIER RAILS ON X + Y AXIS, BUT THE Z AXIS IS BOX WAYS - A QUICK CHECK IS JOG THE Z AXIS DOWN AS LOW AS POSSIBLE AND LOOK AT IT\'S BOX WAYS FRONT SURFACES - DOES THERE APPEAR TO BE A HEAVY LUBE OIL PRESENCE - IF YOU SEE THIS CONDITION THE GIBBS ARE NOT ADJUSTED PROPERLY THERE SHOULD BE ONLY A VERY SHEEN LOOK AS THE LUBE IS BEING WIPED AWAY - CAUTION IF YOU DECIDE TO ADJUST THE GIBBS BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERTIGHTEN THEM - A EASY WAY IS TO CHECK YOUR BACKLASH BEFORE ADJUSTMENT AND AFTER - IF THE BACKLASH HAS INCREASED ALOT MAKE SURE THAT THE Z ZERVO DOES NOT TO START TO WARM UP - IF SO BACK THEM OFF - AFTER YOUR DONE DO A MDI Z MOVE Z-5. G0 AND RIGHT AFTER IT STARTS TO MOVE HIT YOUR E-STOP, YOUR Z AXIS SHOULD NOT DRIFT MORE THAN A INCH FURTHER\r\n

Bingo, that\'s why I joined this Forum, to share information within the Forum. It makes me a better machinist/engineer. I\'m not making money off this hexagon-software/forum per se, I\'m making my job skills better. You give you take, as needed.
    \r\n
\r\nWhen you introduce a business into the hexagon-software/forum where people can benefit monetarily, it changes the whole dynamics of it. I personally don\'t think it works as well. Forums normally split regular Joes from the business people whom they require to be sponsors, who can then pimp their business. The Joes then patronize the business out of loyalty to the hexagon-software/forum.

I post when I get the chance. I\'ve been extremely busy lately...attending to a family emergency the past few days while trying to keep the shop running. I\'ll do what I can to help out but sometimes private messages and phone calls get things done faster.\r\n

\r\n Back feeding due to the weight of the Z axis.
\nIf there is a hydraulic counter balance or a lock/brake of some kind, this should be checked.
\nIf hydraulic counter balance is used, often both ends of the cylinder or closed causing hydraulic lock, if the seals leak, this will cause it.

\r\n Just looking for ideas on a good sealant that you\'ve come across for the enclosures. the white stuff from Fadal is junk. I\'m using a sealant from loctite now and its pretty good but is there something else you\'ve seen the works good. I use a semi synthetic coolant.
\r\nAlso have you seen any way covers that are better than stock Fadal? Mine are always falling off, springs stretch out, all due to rust.\r\n

\r\n Do you know if there is any other way to communicate with a Fadal 4020 while using the RS232 port or if it is possible to add another port? Trying to get a little fancy with some probing routines. Wanting to get the coordinates out through some V variables or w/e works best

\r\n Blue or Black Loctite RTV is all we use for industrial sealant.
\nBLack is best (and costs it as well).

I rebuilt a 4020 about 3 years ago. I was advised to use Sika 1-A . Polyurethane sealant. Zero issues to date. Great stuff. IMO,silicones are not a good choice. The blue stuff is especially prone to coolant swelling. There is only one that has proven to be oil proof IMO and that is the gray silicone made or sold by loctite and permatex. Use the Sika 1A and you will not have to redo it again.\r\n

\r\nhave you ever encountered a problem like this one before? we can\'t find any fadal specialists in our area (mexico just south of texas) and the machine is just inoperative 2 years and counting, we\'ve had 4 diferent "technitians" come check it out but they couldn\'t fix it and just won\'t return our calls aymore.
    \r\n
\r\nThe machine is a fadal 4020 cnc88 and it has that weird problem in the video, i\'ve tried replacing all cards except the cpu from the card cage, i tested them on a fadal 3016 and they worked normally on that machine as well as the amps for it and the parts from the 3016 in the 4020 show the same results, also i swapped the power supply but it\'s the same. it has glass scales on "x and y" axis and unplugging them made no diference, also one motor was sent for repairs and another one was swapped from the 3016 to this machine for testing but no luck, could you suggest what to look for next? could a wire harness cause this issue?
    \r\n
    \r\nthanks in advance!\r\n

\r\n It always good to get a second opinion on issues with Fadal machines, but keep in mind that FadalCNC.com has provided free tech support free since 2003. We still work on machines all over the world and have the capability for laser calibration and ballbar analysis if you need calibration. We don\'t just sell parts, we provide full service support. Phone, Live Chat and email. You are always welcome to get the parts and help you need to get back up and running.

\r\n I have problem with a Fadal 2013 TRM CNC. We have been using fadal and its components for almost 20 years and We’re very satisfied with your products but
\nWe’ve some problems in our cnc machine TRM 2013 in recent days.
\nThe machine gives an #10 motor overload error after 3 seconds of operation even though there is no hall sensor and encoder in our machine
\nCan you help with this problem ?\r\n

      Need help with your Fadal?

      A brief history:

I worked at Fadal as an engineer for over 23 years. When service technicians were unable to fix problems out in the field, I was called to go out and fix the problem. In 23 years, I have never left a machine down in the field (thank God).

Since the Fadal plant closed earlier last year, I have started my own company repairing and selling parts, as well as rebuilding and servicing machines.

As a courtesy to all CNC Zone members, I offer free technical support over the phone and through email. Even if you have limited technical knowledge, most of the time I can help you diagnose your issue by walking you through it.

I don't always have the time to sit here and type up a response but I do when I get the chance.

I am not restricted M-F 9-5 as most companies are. I understand some of you operate your machines at night and have deadlines to meet. Feel free to give me a call anytime at my office (818) 678-9456. You can also reach me on my cell (818) 625-9948. I am often up late/early on the phone with clients overseas.

If you are located in southern California, feel free to drop by my shop. I'm located down the street from where the old Fadal plant was in Chatsworth, California.

      Thank you!

      -Koshy
