Hawk™ is Ingersoll Machine Tools’ Automatic Fiber Placement Module, engineered for high productivity and high reliability in the layup of large aerospace and space components such as wings, fuselages, rocket stages, and fairings. Built to meet the demands of high-rate composite manufacturing, Hawk™ combines advanced motion control, modular architecture, and proprietary software to guarantee efficient, precise, and repeatable layups across a broad range of applications.
Designed with a short and untwisted tow path and featuring modular subassemblies (Wrist, Creel, Head), Hawk™ minimizes fiber distortion and enables fast, defect-free production. Its architecture allows for automatic exchange of modules, significantly reducing downtime and simplifying maintenance. Hawk™ can handle 4 to 24 individually actuated tows, supporting tow widths of 1/8”, 1/4”, or 1/2”, and ensures a maximum layup speed of 100 m/min, making it ideal for both standard and high-throughput applications.
Hawk™ is compatible with a wide variety of fiber-reinforced materials, including epoxies, thermoplastics, BMI, carbon fiber, and glass fiber, and supports bi-directional layup, programmable compaction force, quick-change modules, and in-situ inspection via Ingersoll’s ACSIS™ system. Powered by Ingersoll’s dedicated software suite for programming, simulation, optimization, and diagnostics, Hawk™ adapts to any production workflow, ensuring maximum performance, reliability, and long-term return on investment.
