German software developer SCHOTT SYSTEME GmbH has launched their latest video to demonstrate streamlining of EDM wire cutting programming.   This streamlining process starts with the integration of their ‘Pictures by PC Modelling’ 2D and 3D CAD suite. Ideal for small machine workshops, these CAD tools not only enable the construction of new components to wire cut, but also facilitate the import and modification of 2D and 3D CAD data in formats such as DXF, SAT, STEP and IGES. Utilising the very latest direct modelling tools, workshops can easily implement customer modification requests, without the need to export the data to another CAD system.   On receiving CAD data, feature recognition tools help to identify and extract typical geometry that requires wire cutting. Choosing then from a number of predefined 2 and 4 axis wire cutting strategies, machining can be applied, simulated and output to the EDM wire cutting machine within minutes. The user has full control at all times over specifying offsets, power ratings, ISO and conic corner types, in addition to lead-on and lead-off strategies. A customer’s preferred machining setup can then be saved, including multiple cutting operations and tag removal, and instantly applied to other components requiring the same operations.
