WOW! Does time fly! Moved twice, built a new shop, pulled everything out of storage.. and HERE WE GO!
Just put my table back together. I had torched it into pieces because it was too heavy to move...
Well, we ended up moving twice! First into a friends rental until we could find the right property and then into the "right" property. Only the right property didn't have a garage or shop. So it took...
Hey Zero,
Just checking in again.... I know 7 months just since we put our hose up for sale. We sold in last month, but still haven't found a suitable replacement (we moved because of psycho...
That is so cool. Man I wish I could be messing around with mine right now! Our move could take a while,we moved out of our house and moved into a rental so we don't have to be rushed to buy when the...
Just and update guys... I am in the process of moving (selling our house) so for the time being (to keep the house nice for potential buyers ) we've moved into a rental and I can't use my shop (can't...
Yeah, when I was a little younger I did 610 lbs! and I stopped squatting 11 years ago when I got married and haven't lifted at all for 4 years while I was practicing brazilian jiu jitsu, but had a...
I can't wait to see it mounted! Keep the pictures coming!
I've had to take a little break, I started heavy lifting again and hurt my low back (with a measly 315 lb deep squat) Oh well. I also tore...
I thought I saw a USB->USB G540 ?? no?
Perfect. what is IIRC aluminum? But i also need the square stock to make the mounts...which I will thoroughly enjoy making with the mill, even if it's...
In your picture of that mount (with the Y flipped upside down) is that 4 tiny screws holding the plate?
And, how long of a ball screw is the one for your Y ?
I have no idea, I just was going...
Here is a partial price list for anyone else thinking of this. Where there was a range in price shown, I used the high.

Got my new G9729 tail stock carriage replacement yesterday... $144 (with shipping) and I ordered my first stepper motor today for fitment. I got a Nema 34 640 oz-in . I wanted to see how big they are...
Zer0fighter,
So is the electrical box you mounted to the wall, with your Gecko G540, power supply, etc... far from your machine? Where did you get that generic box to mount everything in? Home...
So, I was wondering why they suggest a motor that is twice as strong for the mill Z axis than the X and Y ??
Thank you, now i understand.
I got some recommendations from the guys at automation technologies and just to keep it straight. The Z-axis is the vertical mill movement right? (The up and down), the X-axis is the left to right...
perfect, then FannBlade's set up will be perfect and it will allow me to move the big electical box on the G9729 like he did. Right now it's not centered and I just don't care for how it looks sitting...
I was thinking of external or internal threads over a longer distance, using the lathe, the way the auto-feed is already set up with the gears.
Since you took out all the gears, does your CNC software combined with the automation allow you to thread still? Because I'd like to do the same thing, but don't want to give up threading abilities.
EPIC FAIL
I was trying to put unload this machine from the crate bottom onto the table I am making to get a better idea of what kind of angle and how much room I'm going to need for the coolant...
:-) thanks ... those floors were a major effort in that there was no moisture barrier and the moisture was around 97% ... we had to ground the concrete down, put up some hard core moisture barrier...
The stepper motor choices are mind boggling... for a rookie like myself. But I found this really good .pdf about stepper motors that is very to the point and informative.

That low....really?? A new G9729 like mine costs $2140 (with freight) the materials for the bench probably around $200 (I spent already over $400 but I went way overboard)... then add in the cost of...
Excellent. Love the walk around. Later when I get to the coolant set up. I'd love to see you do a specific walk around video of the coolant system parts and operation.
With regard to the height of...
Didn't move the project along that far as I was struggling with design changes. In the end, my solution is a little weak, but it's the best I could come up with, without tearing things down and...
Excellent info. FannBlade... I've got another video to upload tonight. I am not much of a picture take, especially when I have a GoPro I use for motocross.
So, I could probably get away with the...
FannBlade and Zer0Fighter,
Was there any particular reason you mounted your stepper on the saddle (y axis) in the place you did (FannBlade on the far side and Zer0Fighter on the near side)...??
...
Ok, yesterday I started my table for the G9729 3-in-1. As I say in the video, I messed up FannBlade's lubricant catch design. I really didn't pay much attention to his table, and was only looking at...
