SwedTurn ST 1200 - the unique CNC lathe with many advantages.
The Swedturn ST 1200 is based on the unique solution developed for the SwedTurn 20, with the spindle head moving on a separate X-bed, perpendicular to the machine's longitudinal Z-axis, bringing significant advantages to the operator:
- When changing the workpiece, "the chuck comes out of the machine", which ergonomically improves the handling for the operator.
- Manual measurement of workpiece is much simpler and ergonomic.
- When inspecting and changing tools, the operator can enter inside the machine.

Unique bed construction The X and Z sliders are separate from each other. They each run on their own bed, which has thereby been able to be dimensioned generously for great rigidity. This unique construction provides a very stable machine for heavy machining and makes chip removal easy. At the same time, the linear guideways are well protected, as well as the measurement scales for the X and Z axis.

Good ergonomics for the operator In order to reduce the physical strain when loading and unloading the workpiece, it is important that the operator can work in an ergonomically correct position, which has been SMT SwedTurn's guiding star during development. When the operator opens the guard, he can walk close by to the workpiece, without having to bend down to reach it. The construction enables good accessibility during manual control of the part or during robotic loading.

Tool system For complex details or difficult materials to be processed, SMT SwedTurn has developed a tool system based on Sandvik Coromant's well-known standard Capto C6 or HSK 63. The magazine consists of a chain magazine for 50 or 100 tool positions with double arm changers. The magazine itself is well protected and easily accessible in a separate cabinet. Tool servicing can be performed easily while the machine is producing.

Tool carrier For heavy processing/machining, the machine is equipped with a milling spindle and B-axis, power 37 kW and max. spindle speed 7000 rpm. Milling spindle is indexable xxgr with yy gr dividing and locked by flat gear rings. If the milling spindle is used for easier processing or is needed as an interpolating axis, this is done with a servo motor. As standard, the milling spindle unit has Z, B and C2 axis, but can also be equipped with Y axis. For easier processing, the machine is equipped with a ÅÅ position turret with or without driven tools and Y-axis.

Headstock is placed on the X-slide. The standard spindle drive is 40kW and spindle front bearing have diameter of 170mm. For heavy parts and processing, we recommend a spindle power of 60 kW and a 260 mm front bearing. Max. rpm with 170 mm bearing is 2000 alt. 3000 rpm and with 260 mm bearing 750 rpm alt. 1500 rpm. Of course, the machine can be equipped with C-axis.

Thermal stability Thermal variations make machining to tight tolerances difficult during the machines warm-up time. This has been minimized in the SwedTurn ST 1200. Through built-in linear measuring scales, the position of the spindle relative to the tool carrier can be calculated and compensated.
