"We need technological openness, we need CO2-neutral fuels, and ultimately we also need efficient combustion engines in order to achieve as much climate protection as quickly as possible," says Peter Müller-Baum, Managing Director of VDMA Power-to-X for Applications. He thus expressly supports the Federal Minister of Transport's view that no climate-neutral drive technology should be excluded from the market.

Due to the lack of a majority in favor of the trilogue result - countries such as Italy, Hungary and Slovakia had already made their opposition clear, while Germany wanted to abstain - the vote was taken off the agenda. The VDMA hopes that a new round of EU negotiations will now produce more expedient results. "Battery electric drives are important and right, but other technologies that are CO2-neutral must also be given a chance. We hope that the new negotiations will now quickly lead to a better result, because the industry finally needs planning security," says Müller-Baum.
