Jointly with Statista data analysts, the German business monthly Capital has identified the country’s most innovative companies. Statista experts and representatives of previous award-winning enterprises vetted potential innovation award winners in 20 industries. The jury investigated candidates in sectors ranging from automobiles and retail to mechanical engineering. In the latter category the circular knitting machine manufacturer Mayer & Cie. won a place on the rostrum.

A remarkable feature of the award scheme is that contenders do not apply themselves; industry representatives put forward the names of companies in their respective sector and jointly with Statista experts check their innovative capability on the basis of publicly available data. In the “machinery and plant manufacturers, 251 to 1,000 employees” category the award-winners included, in addition to Mayer & Cie., Karl Mayer and the Fraunhofer Institute.
