A clever twist for greater precision and reduced set-up times

Once clamped, heavy plates simply stay in position. The LPS40-160-4A does everything else.

While the developers at Behringer have provided the new fully automatic LPS40-160-4A with plenty of technological wizardry, they have wisely chosen to retain many tried and tested components in the latest version of this vertical longitudinal plate bandsaw.

Plates up to six metres long can be positioned, aligned and clamped by grippers on the 1600 mm deep inner table of the LPS40-160-4A, which encompasses a cutting height of 250 mm. The machine’s vertical bandsaw blade first trims the longitudinal side by traversing the saw frame over the material. During this pass, the upper blade guide presses the material onto the table using a pressure roller. Once the tracing rollers detect the end of the material, initially the material support is retracted at the inner table to make space for 90° saw blade rotation. While the face end of the plate is then being trimmed, the sawing frame remains stationary and the feed grippers take charge of saw feed.

Using the LPS40-160-4A, all four sides of a plate can be straightened effortlessly without the need for laborious material handling. The benefits are self-evident: This smart technology saves an enormous amount of time which would otherwise be wasted resetting, necessitating the use of a crane, as well as clamping, gripping and fixing the material. The likelihood of cutting imprecise angles is also vastly reduced by leaving the plate clamped firmly in place right through to the end of the machining process.

Various features have been re-engineered in this new vertical bandsawing machine, including redesigned chip flow to accommodate a planned increase in unmanned automatic operation over several shifts. Where an operator is required, the new LPS40-160-4A comes with a centrally located control station offering an excellent vantage point for monitoring the entire process.

The modular design familiar from the predecessor models has been largely retained in the new machine. The new model also features other proven Behringer features such as the torsion and vibration-free steel construction C-frame. Bandsaw blades can be changed over quickly and conveniently in just a few minutes without the need for auxiliary tools or outside assistance.
