Mass cutting on course for the future

Behringer Eisele goes digital – the new HCS series offers impressive servo drive and ground-breaking control technology

The HCS series from Behringer Eisele is a success story. This high-performance mass cutting circular saw has continued to evolve in step with changing market requirements. The latest versions have now been launched with a modern facelift, marking a decisive step into the technology of the future for the company.

The new models of this high-performance circular saw are designed for workpiece diameters of 10 to 180 mm, depending on size, and use carbide saw blades ranging in diameter from 285 to 520 mm. The standard speed range from 20 to 250 rpm opens up application scope for practically any sawing task, even with just the standard equipment.

The secret lies in the high-performance circular sawing machine’s new control system. “It is designed to be fit for the future”, says Manfred Grüninger, Head of Sales at Behringer Eisele. It not only scores with the look of its futuristic new operating panel: The standard Ethernet interface also enables linkup to customer networks and systems. This allows the saw to be networked with complex existing plant systems, and has made it unconditionally ready for Industry 4.0. “Eisele goes digital”: The slogan used for the HCS series was coined by Manfred Grüninger himself. Linkup to tablets or smartphones over VNC is also guaranteed. Handling is simplified by intuitive operation, three languages as standard, a clearly arranged data structure and a contemporary touchpanel with a wide range of functions. Data management and external data backup are included as standard.

The servo-controlled saw drive with its 22.5 kW output ensures an even cut and fewer vibrations as well as consistent cutting speeds. This has a positive impact on saw blade life, and also makes for improved surface properties in the sawn parts. “The blades last around 20 per cent longer on average according to sawing tests”, explains the Head of Sales.

With three times the axis acceleration and double the axis speed, cycle times are significantly reduced. The new HCS series achieves higher process reliability as standard due to what has been termed its profile monitoring function. “This allows the system to recognize precisely whether the loaded profile actually corresponds to the programmed value – so avoiding collisions right from the outset”, explains Manfred Grüninger.

The mass cutting circular saw has all the answers when it comes to the division of high-alloyed heat resistant steels with tensile strengths in excess of 1200 N/mm2 using carbide-tipped saw blades. It provides the ideal hybrid of tried and tested saw technology coupled with a high degree of variability and adaptability. In line with the specific machining assignment and saw cutting requirements, a range of special possibilities are offered: From workpiece cooling using emulsion through the use of a microspray system to active saw blade cooling for dry cutting applications.

All the fully automated high-performance HCS circular saw models focus on maximum yield, naturally without neglecting production-specific, flexible integration into downstream production processes - after all, a high degree of material handling flexibility is vital in allowing adjustment to today's continuously changing markets. Wide-ranging different infeed and discharge systems and link-up to magazines and storage systems, for instance, ensure independence from set night and day shift working - with the assurance of absolute process reliability in line with the accustomed high Behringer Eisele quality standard.

The entire machine concept is suitable for wet and dry cutting. A new chip conveyor with integrated coolant pump, for instance, ensures the rapid disposal of produced chips. During wet cutting, a trough integrated into the machine frame reliably captures the cooling lubricant emulsion. This makes for a substantial bonus in terms of saw blade lifetime coupled with an improved cutting surface for precise, rapid cuts, whether working wet or dry.
