The calibration of a CNC touch probe is a basic requirement for high-precision measurements in the machining centre.
But when should it actually be calibrated?
✅ Commissioning the software
✅ Changing the measuring speed
✅ Changing the stylus insert
✅Resetting the concentricity of a probe insert
✅ Very precise measurements
✅ Changing the unit of measurement from metric to inch or vice versa
✅ etc.
During calibration, calibration values are determined and saved, which include the time delay of the control unit and the radius of the scanning sphere. These calibration values correspond to the theoretical radii of the scanning sphere. In addition, the centre offset of the sensing sphere is determined and stored in two further values. These values are used for the subsequent measurement in order to obtain an exact measurement result.
