Hydraulic commissioning automated to a great extent

Commission electronified hydraulics easily, even without in-depth knowledge of fluid technology: this is now possible with a new software assistant from Rexroth. It reduces the initial commissioning of the hydraulic actuators to just a few inputs when configuring the axis and the parameters of the motion. Technicians achieve flawless, robust results within minutes and are able to move the axes.

For the initial commissioning of the electronified hydraulic axes, Rexroth transferred decades of experience with parameterization into a software wizard. It logically guides technicians through the parameterization of the axis and prevents incorrect inputs. Even those with little or no experience of hydraulics achieve sound results quickly and reliably.

In this process, the wizard requests the components in a dialog if it cannot read the information via an electronic name plate. The assistant then requests application-specific information such as installation position, masses to be moved and maximum stroke. This information is enough to enable the wizard to a suggest control structures and drive parameters, e.g. gains and limit values. It also calculates characteristic values such as maximum speeds, maximum forces and the natural frequency of the drive.

The software takes all features of the fluidics into consideration internally and generates a non-linear valve characteristic by entering a linear distance and balances “overshoots”. Commissioning engineers are not involved in these calculations; they simply work with the physical parameters for the application. With the recommended parameters, the drives can be moved within minutes with no risk of crashing. The user can then start directly fine tuning the entire system and the process.

Automatic identification of the distance is also possible for many hydraulic axes. With the commissioning wizard, the commissioning engineer can allow the hydraulic drive to carry out monitored motions independently within defined limits. The intelligent function automatically calculates all internal values, without human intervention, and then allows for manual fine tuning.
