MORI SEIKI and DECKEL MAHO together construct the largest high-precision machine

The new DIXI 210 P from DMG / MORI SEIKI features a volumetric accuracy of 35 µm for the exact machining of large, heavy components.

Normally the objective assessment of an innovation is made by comparing it with previous models or at best with competitor products of the same category. But neither of these methods work with the new universal high-precision DIXI 210 P models. Because in the field of high-precision machines this MORI SEIKI and DECKEL MAHO joint development with an work area of (X x Y x Z) 1,800 x 2,100 x 1,450 mm and a volumetric accuracy of  < 35 µm is in the true sense of the word unique and in a world class of its own. This also applies without restriction to the DIXI 210 U high-precision centre, which in principle only differs from its sister machine in that it has an integrated pallet changer for even more efficiency.

More than any other previous project the new DIXI 210 documents the aims of the future-orientated MORI SEIKI and GILDEMEISTER cooperation in the area of product development. This is especially true because this new large-scale ultra-precision machine would not have been possible without the equally creative and innovative cooperation of the two leading tool machine manufactures. The new DIXI 210 is in fact the outcome of the proverbial Swiss precision that has gone into the machines of the MORI SEIKI daughter DIXI, combined with the German engineering expertise of the GILDEMEISTER daughter DECKEL MAHO Pfronten and the technical skills of the workforce at the Swiss DIXI headquarters in Le Locle.

The result is a high-end gantry machine that has revolutionised the concept of perfection. The gantry design, for example, with its 3-point support and parts cast in GGG60 guarantees rigidity and stability. This in turn forms the ideal basis for ultimate precision on the one hand and maximum performance during power milling on the other.

Expressed in figures: the DIXI 210 P can handle enormous, heavy components with diameters up to 2,500 mm, heights of 1,250 mm and weighing a maximum of 8,000 kg in just one setup, including efficient rough machining (with powerful spindle torques of up to 1,550 Nm) plus final finishing with top dynamics (6 m/s2), fast feed rates (60 m/min) and a volumetric accuracy of

In other words, the DIXI 210 owes its high degree of flexibility to its ingenious design and its high-performance spindles. However, the precision described here is quite literally a home and hand-made achievement. Because the expert workforce at DIXI spend more than 500 hours scraping the precision-relevant contact surfaces until they are so flat, straight and square that only minimum shape and position tolerances are possible during the high-precision interaction of all linear and rotary axes.

The DIXI 210 P is also equipped with a special thermal management system that includes cooling of all heat-generating components, so this integral accuracy is also guaranteed for the customer when the machine is subsequently put into operation. In addition complete three-dimensional measurement of the machine is carried out after installation and any necessary numerical fine adjustments made – both with regard to thermal expansion and volumetric accuracy.
