Optimal preparation for WorldSkills 2024
Original competition machines and a modern training environment – at the DMG MORI Technology Center in Stockerau, participants in WorldSkills 2024 were able to prepare perfectly for the disciplines of CNC turning and CNC milling.
DMG MORI has been supporting WorldSkills since 2007 with a large machine portfolio, technical support on site and preparation courses for the trainees - initially as the main sponsor and since 2016 as a Global Industry Partner of the umbrella organization WorldSkills International. The two partners are cooperating for the seventh time at WorldSkills 2024 in Lyon. From September 10 to 15, 2024, the 47th World Skills Championships will once again motivate young skilled workers from all over the world to compete with their best performances. 25 countries will be competing in the disciplines of CNC turning and CNC milling. In the run-up to the competition, the DMG MORI Technology Center in Stockerau, Austria – in addition to the headquarters in Iga – will serve as a training location for the participants in the machining professions.
The modern facilities and good international connections make the DMG MORI Technology Center in Stockerau a popular location for customers from Austria and the surrounding area. In its function as the official training location of the DMG MORI Academy, it is also gaining in importance – especially for young junior staff. These factors played a key role in the Technology Center being selected to prepare participants for WorldSkills 2024. Since March 2024, numerous participating countries from all over the world have taken advantage of the training opportunities on offer there: Canada, Brazil, and Asian countries such as Vietnam, China and Japan as well as countries from the DACH region.
The future competitors had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the original competition machines for several days in Stockerau. In CNC turning this is a CTX 350 with Y-axis, in CNC milling the 5-axis DMU 40 Plus. Both machine tools represent the state of the art in their class, so that the participants can achieve the best possible results in the competition. In Lyon, DMG MORI will provide a total of 14 CTX 350 and 15 DMU 40 Plus as well as the corresponding personnel for technical support.
According to Jörg Harings, Head of Training at the DMG MORI Academy, the Stockerau site is suitable for preparing for the competition for another reason: “The modern training environment and the innovative manufacturing solutions of the technology center there offer young people a comprehensive insight into what they can expect in their professional lives – the future of manufacturing.” Process integration, automation, digitalization and sustainability are the key topics of this Machining Transformation (MX) lived by DMG MORI. “In this vision in particular, well-trained specialists are the be-all and end-all.” This view goes hand in hand with the common goal of DMG MORI and WorldSkills, as Harings concludes: “The promotion and professional strengthening of junior staff in traditional training occupations is a priority for us because they form the backbone of entire industries in their domestic markets.”
