The town of Hemer near the sea of rocks in the Sauerland region of Germany has a long metalworking tradition. The wire industry in Hemer goes as far back as the 15th century. Two brass producers followed in the18th century, and at the beginning of the 20th century both bathroom fittings and cutlery were manufactured in Hemer. Since mid-2015 Hemer has been home to DVS TOOLING GmbH, another company dedicated to metalworking and the latest addition to the DVS GROUP. The company develops and distributes tool solutions for the PRÄWEMA high-performance honing process.

“DVS TOOLING focuses the know-how of the DVS TECHNOLOGY GROUP for more innovation in the tool segment of PRÄWEMA power honing,” says Sandro Schäfer, Managing Director of DVS TOOLING, summarizing the bias of the newly established company. PRÄWEMA, another member of the DVS TECHNOLOGY GROUP, is the market leader for machines for the high-performance gearing honing of gear wheels and shafts. A process that makes the structure and geometry of gearing so perfect that modern gearboxes can run significantly more quietly and internal gearbox wear is reduced. Alongside genuine accessories for PRÄWEMA power honing, the team from DVS TOOLING also offers technological support for the honing process in cooperation with the global service branches of the DVS TECHNOLOGY GROUP. “With our tool solutions we want to make the process of high-performance honing even more efficient and precise, and provide expert support for users before, during and after start of production,” continues Mr. Schäfer, explaining the business model.

Product range for gear honing processes

The DVS TOOLING product line covers the entire range of tools required for power honing. One of the central products is the PRÄWEMA ORIGINAL honing ring. “VarioSpeedDressing® by PRÄWEMA” stands for lower tool costs and increased flexibility during the power honing of gearbox components. Changes to the micro-geometry of the tooth gearing can be realised directly via the machine software, without having to replace the dresser. The extremely flexible “VarioSpeedDresser®” dressing tool from DVS TOOLING integrates the new geometries in the honing tool. The specially developed finishing technology for the VSD has been optimized to such a degree that an extremely high-quality surface is produced by the dresser. This allows the VSD to increase there producibility and surface quality of tooth flanks once more and further reduce noise development of the machined parts in the gearbox. The gearing tool known as the “Vario-SpeedProfiler®” is also part of the technology, and gears the honing ring up to three times in the machinery compartment. This allows considerable savings to be made in terms of tool costs in particular.
