The space available for safety engineering and the time allotted to wiring equipment as diverse as machine tools, packaging machines and food production systems are steadily decreasing. EUCHNER is therefore supplementing its product range with a compact, transponder-coded door locking mechanism designed for use on small, lightweight doors and flaps.

Thanks to its compact dimensions of 120 x 36 x 25 mm, the door locking mechanism CTM is particularly simple to integrate into the machine design. The innovative ball actuator supported on an elastomer bearing can secure doors with extremely small pivoting radii. This type of guard locking offers maximum flexibility to the design engineer.

The bistable guard locking function of the new safety switch CTM ensures that guard locking remains in its momentary state if the power fails or the installation is switched off. In other words: a locked door will stay locked if it was locked before, or it can be opened and closed as needed if guard locking was not previously activated. People can therefore no longer be locked in unintentionally if the power should fail.

The CTM’s intelligent communication capabilities future-proof it for Industry 4.0. It can simply be connected in series with other EUCHNER devices, for example. The integrated interface additionally permits connection to the new EUCHNER evaluation unit ESM-CB, which then forwards the data via IO-Link to the higher-level control system.

Like the recently introduced MGB2 Modular, the new MGB2 Classic is an enhancement of the globally successful Multifunctional Gate Box MGB from EUCHNER. Unlike the Modular variant, however, the Classic version does not communicate using a bus system. It is instead connected directly to the respective control system, making it the ideal choice for non-networked machines that are wired in parallel. The system features two OSSD outputs, continuously provides diagnostic information via an LED indicator, and can be connected in series with up to ten devices.

The modular design of the MGB2 Classic offers maximum flexibility to machine manufacturers, integrators and users. All requirements for door locking systems can be met through combination with numerous freely selectable submodules. Submodules can include pushbuttons, selector switches, key-operated rotary switches or emergency stop buttons, for example. This simplifies warehousing and allows subsequent machine modifications or expansions to be implemented efficiently.

A DIP switch additionally contributes to the versatility offered by the MGB2 Classic: Depending on the switch position, the safety outputs are activated as soon as the door is closed but not locked or only when the door is safely locked. Even greater variability is provided by the locking module, which can be fastened on doors hinged on the left or right and on sliding doors. Moreover, the MGB2 Classic can be tailored to its respective task using accessories from the comprehensive EUCHNER range: from enabling switches to escape releases or auxiliary releases.

In addition to the robust housing, the extensive diagnostic functions and the submodules’ hot-plugging capability, attention was also paid to the repair friendliness of the components when developing the new member in the MGB2 family. For example, all screws are captive and can be tightened or loosened with just one tool. Furthermore, coded terminals or an RC18 plug connector on the connection modules ensure rapid, trouble-free replacement. This greatly shortens downtimes.

There is more than meets the eye to EUCHNER’s smallest safety switch. It is the innovation on the inside. The CES-C07 supplements the familiar and frequently used option of connecting sensors in series by adding much more comprehensive diagnostics. Even better: the devices provide process-relevant parameters in real time, thereby guaranteeing information for preventive maintenance. The sensors measure relevant parameters in the sur roundings to indicate problems before machine failure can occur. This system can even detect tampering attempts.

When safety module ESM-CB is used, this information is polled automatically from each switch in the chain and provided to your control system via IO-Link. It goes without saying that the switch features functions such as weak-range indication and highly visible display LEDs, as well as a safety classification in category 4 / PL e. This switch can also be approached from three directions, allowing it to be mounted in different positions. The standard M12 plug integrated directly into the switch permits connection using standard M12 cables. Another benefit is the option of incorporating mechanical safety switches in the series connection of CES devices.

Communication at Industry 4.0 level

Measuring only 18 mm in width, the slim safety module ESM-CB is multifunctional: it is an evaluation unit, safety relay and IO-Link device in one. Everything you need to secure a small machine.
A special advantage is the option of transmitting all relevant sensor and device data via IO-Link.
You can connect two safety circuits to the inputs: one with which the device can monitor an emergency-stop chain or the switching contacts of mechanical safety switches. Another one is used for evaluating a switch chain comprising the new safety switches CES-C07. Two redundant, safe relay contacts enable the direct switching of loads up to 6 A mps.

The safety module is in a constant dialog with the connected devices, polling each sensor for information including the system state, the ambient conditions, and the sensor’s data such as the sensor type and version number. This allows you to communicate at Industry 4.0 level.
