Hello I am programming a lathe part and wanted confirmation.
I am going to tap using a 3/8-16UNC tap, is the correct drill size 5/16 ? Could I use a 7/16 drill as well ?
Thank you !
This is one of the exercices in a book I found and thought it was quite interesting in finding a solution. As to your question is it for engineering / design. I'm thinking whoever designs this part...
see info above
I know this is not a Mastercam question but don't know where else to ask.
Can someone tell me how to calcualate the max and min limits of the missing letter in the attached file
Your help is...
I do not have a machine to try, therefore my question is
what if I program a part in Mastercam with cutter compensation set to Computer, however the operator uses cutter compensation in Control....
Can someone give me a bit more of examples ?
Hello,
I have geometry that I need to run a surface rough pocket on. When I go to the cut depths parameters this where I get lost. I understand the difference between absolute and incremental....
This is probably not the best place to place this topic, however you all have been great to me in answering my questions so here goes.
I was given a blueprint to draw into Mastercam, that is no...
It says in the help file "Allow negative Z motion along a surface" Deselect this tool if using a tool that does not cut upward... Which tool cannot cut upward or downward ?
Don't all tools do...
Using this tooplath is the a purpose one would use either of the transitions " High Speed", "Ramp", "Broken", Follow Surface". i.e if I just want to rough out my stock, either one should work,...
Thanks for the info..
However in the example I provided I am using tip comp to Center. Therefore which one of the scenarios I presented are correct, or are both correct ?
I've taken a look at the backplot of both operations and verify and now I see what is going on, but need to know if both are correct.
1. With depth set to 0.035 and tip comp set to Center.
Tool...
Hi Dave,
Thanks for the response back. I'm just doing a 2D contour toolpath, no surfaces, therefore there is no setting for max or min z.
The geometry I created is at Z0. My stock size is 4"...
I'm using a 1/4 diameter ball nose tool and roughing out grooves with cutter compensation set to OFF
(programming center of a line)
-Top of Stock = 0abs
- Clearance = 1abs
- Retract = .25 abs...
Thank you !
Thanks Matt,
This forum is the best, and slowly but surely I'm learning a lot !
Couple of questons with regards to Contour toolpath in mastercam.
1. Depending on what I select Cutter comp in Control or Computer is there a reason why Inifite Look Ahead and/or Optimize are...
I'm using cutter compensation in control, so that my code outputs G41/G42. The way I've seen it work on controls is that the length offset and diameter offset are equal to the tool number. So if...
I have created a 4 by 4 rectangle and creates a 5 by 5 rectangle.
Using a contour operation I only chain the 4 by 4 rectangle and use the 5 by 5 rectangle as stock with a z depth of 1 inch. Top...

This my sound a stupid question, so please bare with me..
How does one calculate feeds and speeds. I know there are calculators on the net which will give you the results, how ever I would like...
If I select this cycle in my drilling does it affect anything or does it act as a regular drill cycle ?
Thanks for the reply.
I think I am doing something wrong or don't understand.
Create a 10 by 10 rectangle. Then go to Xform-Offset Contour. Chain the rectangle, and in the dialog box enter in a...
Create a rectangle of any size. Next use the xform offset contour. If you offset it at a distance outside of the original rectangle then you will get a radius around the corners, which is good.

what about 6 to 9 or (-90 to -180 degrees) ? Where is that arc ? If you have a result of an arc from 6-12 mastercam thus should create an arc from 6 to 9
Another issue I've run into..
Create a circle of any diameter and create a verticle line from the top quadrant all the way pass the bottom quadrant of the cirlce. Now if you go to edit - trim -...
I think I might have found a solution.
Where ever the curves, lines interesect you will have to break it at the intersection.
For example create a 10 inch diameter circle. Then create a...
