Hi Tom,

Yes measuring at Kanalog. Alligator lead on kanalog ground just below encoder inputs (one section of screw terminals removed and clip is on the pins). Tip of probes is on a 1" long piece of wire...
I checked few things on my original fadal that works perfectly and seems like im getting lots of noise there too. Also showing some noise on all encoder inputs even when not moving. Heres a shot of...
Ok i did some quick tests with the scope. Really dont have much confidence in what im doing but i did get to see some distorted signals. :)
Scope power cord is not grounded. Lead is grounded to...
Hi Tom,
I just picked up an oscilloscope few days ago, haven't used it (or any other oscilloscope) at all yet. I got a Rigol DS1102Z-E, hopefully its suitable for this.
I've read that there...
Hi Tom,
I did the same test again today. I zoomed in until the scale showed single digits and it is not changing +1/-1, its completely straight. Zooming in on other parts of the curve does show...
Connections are all good. It runs fine at lower speeds, only a problem at higher speeds. Everything seems to point to the drives considering the following:
Test 1 - New machine (Fadal #2), new...
This was the one i bought. says unavailable right now but looks like the same unit is available from different sellers.

Hey guys Ive been using a dmm motor/servo on a 4th axis for few years now and it has been working great. I added a second machine and wanted to be able to use the same 4th axis so bought a second dmm...
Just thought i would post an update. We purchased a cheap usb isolator on amazon and it seems to be helping for sure. I dont think we have had a single disconnect since.
2. I just checked voltage between computer and Kflop and i get 0.000 VDC and 0.018 VAC. Also checked the resistance of USB cable, its about 1 ohm.
3. You mean isolation? How do i achieve this? I...
Hey Tom,
I get occasional Read Failed auto disconnect errors. Not too bad, maybe couple times a week. I blamed it on old computer but ive setup a second machine now with better computer and its...
Hi Tom,
Wondering If i can use Kflop to output a signal to control an RC servo? Its a 5v pwm signal and i believe it uses the width of the pulse to set a position.
Im working on a project with...
I think thats right. I wouldn't really recommend these encoders for a couple of reasons.
First reason is they have no index. Fadal did not use proper home switches, they just did a cold start...
I reloaded all the configuration files and everything works fine again. I guess something got messed up when it shut down.
Hi Tom,
we just lost power here at shop. Have power back now and im getting an error, Says gcode error required parameter missing or something like that. any suggestions? Thanks.
Thank you Tom I will try that. I think it would be much trickier to get the toolchange program to detect the error and set everything properly. The e stop actually comes from a switch being watched...
Hi Tom,
Im running into an occasional mechanical issue with my toolchanger and its triggering an Estop. My toolchange program is still running and In order to recover I need to open up kmotion and...
Ok sounds like theres no easy soloution other then a proper re-tuning. Was afraid of that. There is a possibility of these coming back. Maybe next time I will go into the tuning page and do some...
I would stick with wired for sure! So many reasons wired is better... It will be more reliable, wont be bothered by interference etc, batteries will never go dead, and it will always be right there...
Hi Tom, I had to machine some holes in a big piece of pipe a few days ago. Weight was about 1000 lbs and it really messed up the tuning in my 4th axis. Started to oscillate a little if I moved it at...
I used a DMM AC motor and drive on my 4th axis and its working great. Encoder signals going back to Kanalog and all the tuning done with Dynomotion. I got best tuning results in torque mode. DMM...
Your the guy from practical machinist right? Glad you came over. I think this will be perfect control for you.
- Yes it is closed loop in most cases, can also run open loop steppers
- Anything...
That code is just what I was thinking. Nice and simple, very little changed in the original toolchange program.
Nice to see your making progress. Post video of it when your done. Im jealous...
More like 1682.6923076923075... lol
It shouldnt be to hard to figure out. Hardest part will be the homing program. You will need to have last tool number saved to disk. You will have the same number of counts between pockets, and you...
Thats a great job. I've considered doing the same to mine. The toolchanger on my Fadal is also Geneva drive and is unbelievably slow. I really need to have all tools of every program right in line....
Wow talk about a safety factor on that. I was afraid if i had a spike to 15v or something I might do major damage.
Any suggestion on what size CT to order? Drive is 200v 7.5kw, guessing peak...
Tom, Can you explain those 2 lines of code?
I realize its not exactly ideal. This drive has a braking unit that dumps power to resistor, not regenerative, so no worries about braking. And my...
Sorry im a mechanical guy with limited electrical knowledge. I saw other recommendations about using opamps but I really know nothing about them or where to even start. Can I buy a device like this...
