Now i'm starting to see how my physics classes may come in handy someday :) I can't imagine what it took to make that... Amazing! I'd love more details as well.
lots of stuff i've never seen. Lots of great ideas! Watch out, people may steal them :)
I started thinking more about this issue for my own setup (running vga lcd cables and such with power cables in a single conduit) and thought about ferrites at first. I think I found a better...
I would think steppers are too high current/ high voltage devices for it to matter at all. I would worry much more if it were a parallel cable or something else (besides the power cable) directly...
I don't have my cnc running yet but a few problems I can forsee are dust and chips. Optical mice would be ideal for this and I'm considering trying a $20 flexible waterproof keyboard...
Does anyone have any stories to scare us into getting fire safety equipment? (I have 2 powder extinguishers) no fire blanket and no class d extinguisher. Would this be overkill for my ~25ft by...
I have 2 abc fire extinguishers (powder I think) at opposite ends of my workroom
Have a great time! Congrats!
Tekno-did you just post this question on kleinbauer's forum?
I had suggested taking windings off the secondary in the thread on kleinbauer's forum...but I think we later found out it was a...
Very cool projects! Can't wait to see what the portable gantry drafter can do.
I'm happy to know the shop/kitchen is cleaner now :)
done! well..at least "cnc revision 1" is...
I just ordered a 330va toroidal. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=122-640&CFID=888497
both 25 v secondaries in parallel rectified should give me about 35v (*~1.4)
Well, I got the last shipment of parts a few days ago and I think I'll start with just one NSK rail for the x axis. This will only be temporary. I'll be using it to cut new gantry pieces out of...

I'll have to try one of those. I solder a ton, but have only ever used Radio Shack solering irons. I'll have to try a better one someday..
a few soldering tips:
-have a clean workspace
-clean the back of the board with warm water and mild soap, make sure you get all the soap off
-use thin electrical solder
-have a damp paper towel...
I live in Barrington, a suburb of Chicago and don't know anyone local. Even if I did, I guess it wouldn't be much use to you... :(
those toroids look tempting, a LOT cheaper than the plitron ones also... If my ebay stuff goes for enough money, maybe I'll get one.
I've built two hobbycnc boards and have had no trouble. They're great! Just ask hobbycnc related support questions through the yahoo group Dave (the owner of hcnc) has setup and you're fine.
sounds like you need to find another way out.
I think a 4th axis indexer can be added to almost any 3 axis machine after building it. I'm building a modified version of the "phoenix" router from www.kleinbauer.com I am substituting aluminum...
I was searching the forum and ran across a link for a 24v 10a transformer here
(http://www.mpja.com/category/Transformers/24V_CT_(12-0-12)10A_TRANSFORMER_7846_TR.asp)
although it is different...
here are pics of my idea for securing the nsk rails (20.5" for the x axis..still in the mail.) There is a milled flat in front that spans the entire distance. This will be secured to the mdf. I...
horray for google! :)
Well, 2 coats of shellac and 2 cans of rustoleum painter's touch spray paint later, most mdf parts are blue. I decided to ditch the aluminum channel idea (I have a very limited # of tools and don't...
most of the hdd motors i've seen have 4 wires. None can be run by dc current. Lots of info here http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/diskstepper.html
I use cadsoft eagle as well (the freeware version) and have often made my own pcb's. (toner transfer)
I work for IT departments so computer parts are easy for me to get. Right now I'm setting up a hp vectra (933mhz p3) with win xp or 2k (haven't decided yet) Hopefully it's fast enough. You can buy...
microsoft never supports oem sofware unless you pay for a case (I believe it's $75). The sytem builder (ie dell, gateway, hp) provides support.
Dertsap: ever heard of linux? redhat, fedora,...
true. hardware failures do some weird things. ie. one instance I saw a computer kept blue screening. It turned out to be a bad stick of RAM. Another, windows setup kept crashing half way through....
