I think that a few bad apples tried to spoil the batch on the forum. Nothing has changed and as others have stated above there has always been and always will be excellent support for members there....

Several members have gone with I 1/4-3/8" aluminum bar stock and fastened precision ground v-rail to it with button head fasteners. You will spend a bit more doing this upgrade but I haven't heard...
looking good, I miss my 06' machine :(
and oh is that statement so true Ger, I don't think there will be a day in my life when I say I have too many clamps :D
There are barely any machining marks, it is almost ready for finish right off the table. A tiny touch up with 150 grit makes it perfect, really not that bad considering the machine already did all...
Put up a new video on youtube last night, my first 3d relief carving. File from 3dvectorart, a free file James Booth put out. It is mahogany about 3/8" thick from a 1/2" thick blank. 200IPM 18,000RPM...
Looks great, bet its running well! Nice XLRs!
Replied to it.
That I'm aware of there has only been one instance of it and that member is in the works resolving it with dumpstercnc now. There was some play in the ABL nut and he was trying to narrow down if it...
Its used instead of a cable carrier, a conduit which is a cheaper but still functional alternative.
Those blocks are from radio shack you can get them at almost any electronics retailer/online store.
Joe is still cutting 06 kits you should send him an email. There aren't dimensioned plans persay but there is a PDF and autocad drawings for the machine and parts to be cut and machined.
I'm using steel angle, aluminum angle won't be as rigid and won't take wear as well as steel will. They are 2"x4" 8020 pieces from their surplus ebay store that you see advertised on the zone.
Sorry can't answer your question but how much did that spindle and VFD set you back? Looks nice. :)
My indexer is done pretty much complete I just haven't had the time to wire in another geckodrive and get going with the software end of it. My goal is to get turning within this next month when...
Khalid your work is very impressive. Are you using aspire to design this on a flat surface then using the wrapper program to swap one axis with your 4th (A) axis?
Ger I know all about those "projects." It's amazing how long sometimes things can get carried out. The problem with dust collection with that router is the collet lock. I used a k2 mount with it and...
Yeah a 4x8 isn't feasible with a 1/2" ball screw there would be too much whipping. In the future it would have to be a larger diam. ballscrew but optimally a rack and pinion setup with geared...
No 4x8 yet just 4x4 and there is a kit for it. What's your budget like?
Some new photos of the "rumored" 4th axis. Been documenting it a lot over at the hybrid support forum and it is open source there, when it is done I will release the drawings and vcarve files to...
Sounds good. I've had nothing but problems with the pc 890 series router. It over heats at the collet enough to burn you after a few minutes under no load. There was a recall of like 70,000 of the...
Ger nice design. Have you considered using dumpstercnc's anti-backlash hardware? I've been very happy with his ABL and motor couplers. Got rid of the lovejoys they are too cheap and have too much...
Welcome aboard!
The angle iron is radiused at the edges, we choose not to grind our rails as apposed to a machine like the mechmate at 1/8" both Joe and I found early on it wasn't necessary. Hitting it with a file...
As a general rule of thumb I always test and contact the touch plate with the cutter to "green light" before doing it. It's a painless fast test that ensures it should work properly.
Sure have, the dust collection is pretty awesome now, no more dust keeps the machine very clean. Blew off the machine with some air before I took the pics though :D
Yep :D
Some updates on my hybrid. Haven't posted in this log in awhile and just got this machine really buttoned up. Got igus chain on the Y axis now, limit switches on XYZ and dumpster motor couplers on...
Why not just go with 1/2" http://www.thebigbearingstore.com/servlet/the-68/1-fdsh-2%22-Four-Bolt-Flange/Detail
and make it work? 12mm is what, .47? 1/32 isn't a lot of play especially with 2 set...
Hopefully by the weekend. My nova g3 chuck, live center and adapter to the 5/8" drill rod is coming thursday. Going to install it this week and beef up the table while I'm at it.
What do you think in terms of costs of materials this cnc router set you back total (excluding the controller)? I'm assuming that spindle and all the raw aluminum sheet alone burned a hole deep :D
