New Rotary Encoders Series for Use with High Bearing Loads

With its RIQ 425 and IQN 425, HEIDENHAIN is expanding its range of absolute rotary encoders with contamination-resistant inductive scanning and 58 mm housing diameter. The new rotary encoders with integral bearing are characterized by their high permissible bearing loading and are conceived for applications in which the encoder is driven by belts or a gear on the encoder shaft.

RIQ variants are available as mechanical versions for separate shaft coupling with synchro flange and 6 mm stub shaft as well as with clamping flange and 10 mm stub shaft. The IQN encoders are available with stator coupling, blind shaft or hollow through shaft, and 12 mm inside diameter.

The encoders are designed for a maximum shaft speed of 12 000 rpm. The maximum permissible shaft load is 100 N axial and 125 N radial at shaft end for solid-shaft encoders or 140 N for variants with hollow shaft. Protection on the housing fulfills the IP67 degree of protection. The rotary encoder is designed for operating temperatures from –40 °C to 100 °C in the variants for flange socket and for up to 80 °C for versions with cable.

The absolute position values are output with a 13-bit singleturn resolution and a 12-bit multiturn resolution over an EnDat or SSI interface. Incremental signals with 1 VPP are additionally available. The encoder is connected electrically by an M23 flange socket or a cable. As an additional feature, in the version with SSI interface the rotational direction is reversible by pin and a preset function (zeroing) is available.
