With the SF-PLS (Prisma Loading System), proven OTEC Stream Finishing Processes meet smart automation. All you need to do is select the finishing task, such as rounding cutting edges, chip-space polishing or coat smoothing. After that, the machine automatically selects the process parameters for each tool. The prism pallets used enable rapid loading and unloading of tools, regardless of the length and diameter of components.
Flexibility ? Load the machine with tool batches in random order, with any diameter ? Fully automated workpiece removal and return ? For different tool parameters such as tool lengths and diameters ? Simple programming for different batch sizes, e.g. large and small production runs or re-grinding batches
New features ? Stream Finishing Processes: Short, programmable processes with times of just 30–180 seconds ? Automated loading unit: Automatic detection of diameters from 3–20 mm and lengths of up to 220 mm ? 2-finger gripper system: For shaft diameters of 3–20 mm without any retooling ? Smart software: Choice of flex or job mode with automated, predefined or custom parameters to choose from ? Convenient loading: Capacity for 360 tools on 18 pallets of 20 tools, enabling unmanned runtimes of 5.5 h at a processing time of 30 seconds and up to 20 h at a processing time of 180 seconds
In the drag finishing process, high-quality workpieces are clamped in so-called drag finishing machines and describe a planetary motion through an abrasive medium. For this process, OTEC has developed special techniques to fulfil a wide variety of customer requirements. The use of a dual drive system with two electric motors enables workpieces, including the cutting edges of carbide drills, to be rounded uniformly, giving a considerable increase in tool life. By positioning the holders at an angle, the quality of polishing on the face of the workpiece, e.g. in the case of forming tools, can be improved considerably. Drag finishing machines from OTEC are available for both wet and dry processing. The drag finishing process is especially suitable for applications in: the toolmaking industry (e.g. for rounding cutting edges and polishing the chip flutes of carbide tools to a high shine) forming tools (for smoothing and polishing the pressing and forming surfaces)
The SF stream finishing machine (also referred to as an immersion polishing unit) is a completely new concept which features short processing times, easy automation and excellent reliability as well as providing a first-class mirror finish even inside the flutes. It is also called spindle finishing machine.
