German CAD/CAM software developer SCHOTT SYSTEME GmbH has used this year’s EuroMold exhibition to launch Pictures by PC version 3.6, the next generation of their CAD/CAM software. This latest release builds upon the continuous 28 year development of the product, and provides major productivity gains for nearly all aspects of design and machining.
The improvements start with the more efficient machining of prismatic components, through the introduction of HSM trochoidal machining techniques, resulting in shorter machining cycles and better tool life. Simplifying 3D machining of complex parts, SCHOTT SYSTEME’s new ‘Hybrid Finishing’ technique automatically analyses the part topology, and combines and adapts differing finishing stratagies within a single operation, to machine the entire form. Areas that require remachining with smaller tools are immediately identified and localised using the very latest rest material recognition. Even companies working with STL mesh models see the introduction of a mesh modelling and modification suite. Other noteworthy points include fully integrated milling and turning, a new toolpath simulation, and numerous CAD improvements.
