SCHUNK - Gripping and Clamping News

Specialists for micro cutting – now in sealed design available

For many years, the TRIBOS polygonal clamping technology, developed and patented by SCHUNK, are setting benchmarks in the field of metal cutting. Its high absolute accuracy, dynamics and excellent rigidity and damping value allow best surface qualities and long tool lives. In order to open up the potentials of modern HSC cutting edges and spindles more comprehensively, the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems offers the standard series TRIBOS-RM, TRIBOS-Mini, and TRIBOS-Mini SVL as a sealed version for direct clamping of micro tools with internal coolant supply, too. In the case of deep bore holes and for milling grooves, the internal coolant supply ensures that chips will be removed and taken away from the cutting edge for best cutting actions and that optimum cooling of the cutting edge is possible. Both in combination, allows longer service life of the high-quality tools and excellent finish results at the workpiece. In addition, the sealed design prevents chips or dust from penetrating into the mounting or spindle. In the first step, SCHUNK offers the dust-proof and coolant-proof version (up to 80 bar) for the precision mountings TRIBOS-RM HSK-E 40 with ø 3 mm, 6 mm, and 12 mm, TRIBOS-Mini HSK-E 40 with ø 3 mm and 6 mm, as well as tool extensions TRIBOS-Mini SVL with ø 3 mm and 6 mm.

Mechanically insensitive and highly precise

The standard version proves itself with a run-out and repeat accuracy of < 0,003 mm at an unclamped length of 2,5 x D and a balancing grade of G 2.5 at 25.000 rpm or ultra-fine balanced at a balancing grade of G 0.3 at 60.000 rpm. They meet all the standards in terms of size accuracy and surface quality and therefore even demanding requirements can be reached. They are suitable for every tool shank in h6 quality, and depending on the type, they are tested up to 205,000 rpm. Since the tools are operating without moveable parts, they are mechanically insensitive and guarantee low maintenance and wear-free clamping. Even after several thousand clamping cycles no material fatigue occurs. With a hydraulic clamping device tool change is done process reliable within a few seconds.
