As early as 1995, the founders of SMS Maschinenbau GmbH recognised the far-reaching trend of control technology for machine tools. The company was one of the first to equip existing (mechanical) profile and thread grinding machines with cutting-edge CNC technology at attractive prices. The basic machines – principally those manufactured by Reishauer and Klingelnberg – were reconditioned and modernised (CNC retrofit).

In addition to our retrofit service in the form of electrical and/or mechanical inspections, a service on which the company was founded, today’s main focus lies in developing and manufacturing our own profile and thread grinding machines for various areas of use. SMS has accumulated extensive expertise and is always guided by the latest trends. All manufactured grinding machines – whether they’re new developments or retrofit solutions – meet the highest standards of accuracy, productivity and flexibility.

EXTENSIVE RANGE
We are constantly working to expand on the applications and development of our machines. Programmed in the dialogue system (HMI), custom software solutions guarantee thread grinding to the highest standards for every task. The product spectrum of SMS ranges from highly flexible all-purpose thread grinding machines all the way to fully automated special-purpose thread grinding machines for use in mass production. In addition to our core business, CNC PROFILE AND THREAD GRINDING MACHINES, our product range also includes machines for measuring tip relief, profiling machines and relieving lathe machines.
