Tebis at the second Mold and Die Forum

Machine manufacturer Makino offered a look at the future of the sector to roughly 170 participants at its second Mold and Die Forum. Tebis sees Industry 4.0 as an opportunity for small and medium-sized companies to remain competitive.

On January 24 and 25, 2017, industry experts in Kirchheim gave presentations that described the opportunities for Industry 4.0 die manufacturing. The forum program was informative and varied, with discussions, live demonstrations and tours of the technology center.

Jens Lüdtke, head of Tebis Consulting, and five other professionals discussed "Industry 4.0 and the future of unattended manufacturing in die and mold manufacturing." The panel discussion was moderated by Susanne Schröder, editor-in-chief of the trade magazine Form+Werkzeug. Specifically, the experts discussed how much unattended production is reasonable in single-part manufacturing and what requirements machine operators will have to meet in the future. Lüdtke took the perspective that the appropriate Industry 4.0 strategy can also give smaller and medium-sized companies competitive advantages in the digital transition. Although there are no standard solutions, it's easier to get started with help. He is convinced that "smaller die manufacturers can achieve a lot by better organizing their procedures, standardizing their processes and developing a vision with specific objectives." The experts were in agreement that Industry 4.0 should be addressed and discussed more frequently.
