universal machine technology interface
How can modern machining production be made efficient, sustainable, and future-proof? A Dutch consortium of eleven leading technology companies led by the Association FPT-VIMAG answers this question with an impressive live demonstration at EMO Hannover 2025. Visitors will experience a fully functional machining factory of the future that shows how existing technologies can be intelligently integrated.
The focus is on end-to-end digital networking – enabled by open standards such as umati, which ensure cross-manufacturer communication between machines, software, and systems.
The factory consists of three central elements:
- Digital work preparation
CAD/CAM, ERP, and plann+ing systems are seamlessly connected to a central tool management system. This reduces errors, shortens setup times, and ensures stable processes.
- Autonomous CNC production
Highly automated machines, intelligent clamping technology, and sustainable cooling lubricants enable 24/7 production with high utilization and process reliability.
- Real-time production cockpit
Central dashboards provide full transparency on machine status, energy consumption, and product quality. Supply chain integration ensures a continuous flow of information.
The machining factory of the future shows how digitalization, automation, and interoperability—supported by umati—lead to measurable improvements in efficiency, sustainability, and competitiveness.
umati's role in the setup was to display data from machines and to aggregate power consumption data to demonstrate how this data can be accessed to calculate, for example, manufacturing carbon footprints at a later time. This display will both be shown at the umati booth and the Factory of the Future installation in Hall 15, booth B05.
