"Building the hydrogen economy needs more speed"
Commenting on the German government's revised National Hydrogen Strategy, Peter Müller-Baum, Head of VDMA Power-to-X for Applications, said:
"It is good that the German government has now revised and adopted its National Hydrogen Strategy. It is an important building block for achieving the climate targets and also offers good opportunities for medium-sized mechanical and plant engineering companies to contribute their knowledge and expertise, for example in the construction and operation of electrolysers.
However, this adaptation comes late and must now be implemented at high speed. The hydrogen economy must not be viewed in isolation, but must be meaningfully merged with other elements of the energy transition. Here, however, we are concerned to see that the Federal Ministry of Economics in particular is often pursuing a policy of small-scale regulation instead of relying on market-based freedom and openness to technology. This will not work in practice and will also hinder the development of the hydrogen economy."
